Blackbird Inn

We were so close to DT Napa, and had daily breakfast and happy hour with real food instead of processed junk. The room lighting was pretty awful, my one complaint, but the fireplace and GIANT tub almost made up for it. 🤣

We came to Napa to pick up our beloved dog’s ashes from somewhere nearby. It was a somber trip, but my husband and I were very happy with our stay and hope to come back in happier circumstances. The staff were friendly, the food was good, the house was beautiful, and we had a great room with a comfortable bed and pillows. The location is amazing too. Downtown starts on the next block of 1st street, so we got there quickly and could leave the car parked. We walked over, enjoyed wine, and didn’t have to worry about parking. There was a mixup over breakfast times, completely my fault since I wasn’t thinking straight when we arrived, but the person making breakfast the next morning was kind and understanding.

The rooms were comfortable and quaint, and the location made it easy to walk everywhere. The service was the main problem. Staff seemed unsure what they were doing, and the food felt cheap. We paid $300 a night and got toast with two tablespoons of microwaved eggs and three strawberries for breakfast on Valentine’s Day. My girlfriend’s one-egg scramble toast was so cold they took it away and said they’d microwave a new one in five minutes. At checkout, we were told to leave or face a $50 charge for each extra 30 minutes. Checkout was at 11, but they charged us double for handing over the keys at 11:28. This is an eight-bedroom place, and the one maid arrived at noon, an hour after checkout. As we packed, I watched her drive up and park beside me, so she wasn’t already on site. I also saw the receptionist charge us a few minutes after the late fee time. I had to walk past her three times with our bags. We and our things were already out of the room, but she sat with her coffee, opened my file, and charged us without checking. There was no help either. All the rooms are the same size, but their prices differ by hundreds of dollars. There’s a schematic on the second floor, so don’t pay extra for the “big ones.” After my edit, they’re now lying in their response. The staff were the problem, with cheap food and service and all the nickel-and-diming. Maybe they should have done their job properly and not overcharged us. You can find a better place.

It felt like we were staying with friends, and we’d come back. Each day there’s a happy hour with a charcuterie board and two or three wines to choose from. Coffee, sodas, and homemade cookies are available free throughout the day. Breakfast portions were just right to set us up for wine tasting. Such a charming place and a nice find.
