Hollyhock Country House

Lucille made me feel at home as soon as I arrived at the quaint, quiet Hollyhawk Inn, and that feeling lasted my whole visit. We sat and chatted in the morning. I could have stayed all day, but I had places to go. Part of me wants to come back just to sit with Lucille in her lovely home and hear about her next adventure. Good luck on your hike, Lucille! My friend and I had a fantastic time. We had a cozy room and our own bathroom, and the garden was beautiful and in full bloom. The owner and host is a sweet, lovely woman. She chatted with us and made a fantastic breakfast, especially the incredible pastries. Just know this is an old-fashioned Bed & Breakfast, where you’re staying in someone’s house. The place has an artsy, eclectic charm. These days, with AirBNBs, VRBOs, and little contact with hosts, some people might be caught off guard by Hollyhock Country House. It’s more traditional B&B style, and I’d stay again.

Lucille looked after us so well during our cozy stay. She made a lovely breakfast with fresh-squeezed orange juice, and there was a cracking fire. She also helped us plan winery visits and told us about the history of some of her beautiful furniture. The location is ideal for getting to wineries, with five in the surrounding area.

The host and the joyful experience will stay with me, and I’d be thrilled to come back. It’s a whimsical place with kind, gracious hospitality, in a superb location that still has the peace of a country house. When I arrived, I could smell fresh bread and pastries baking. They were the stars of breakfast, along with a beautiful orange-yolk egg.
