River Terrace Inn

The only things I liked were the location and the free parking on site. The room smelled strongly of age and dirt as soon as I opened the door, and the hotel's free WiFi didn’t work at all. The fitness room was tiny, barely enough space for two people, and lacked much of anything I wanted to use. Staff came across as cold right when I arrived, and check-in was no better than what I’d expect at a budget place. I’d tell people to stay somewhere else. There are nicer hotels nearby at about the same price, and if budget is the reason you chose this one, I’d save up for a better option. I wish I could share a sample of that room smell so others would understand.

We spent our honeymoon based in this hotel while road-tripping around the area. We were usually away and came back very early to sleep and shower, so we weren’t spending our time smoking in the room. We stayed in the first room for one night, then switched rooms for the rest of the week. The towels in both rooms were rock hard, and the upgraded room’s felt almost scorched. At checkout, when we were already running late for our flight, staff said they were charging us $250 for smoking. Housekeeping had gone through my bathroom trash while I was on my period and found an edible wrapper. We did not smoke in the room at any point. Marijuana is legal where we live in MI, and I have a medical card for period pain, so it’s my medication. I think they search the trash for an easy way to charge tourists who use legal marijuana, but that wasn’t what happened with us. Trash is for garbage, and no marijuana was consumed on their property. The male manager, DEAN, showed me a photo on his phone of what he’d taken from my trash and refused to refund the fee. He said the room smelled so bad they had to put in an air purifier and couldn’t rent it out. If that were true, why didn’t they tell us after our first night, before we stayed in a second room? We could have remained in the original room. It makes me wonder if they meant to charge us twice, once for each room. If they really thought there was a problem, they could have told us so we wouldn’t supposedly smoke and stink up the upgraded room too. They kept me at the front desk over this at the last minute, and we missed our flight by a couple of minutes. A higher-up female manager at the property also told me she’d contacted Costco to stop them refunding me, since I booked through Costco. My credit issuer refunded the smoking fee and room upgrade. Corporate, NOBEL HOUSE HOTELS, was no help. They kept sending me back to the same rude, snarky manager, JENNY, who threatened me by saying she’d called Costco and then hung up. I called corporate again, and they said that same woman would call me back. She never did. The attached photo is an accurate picture of the hard towels. The people in management and corporate who thought this was acceptable were: -JENNY TUMOR (PROPERTY GENERAL MANAGER, the rudest, hung up on me and called Costco) -DEAN (THE HOTEL MANAGER, had pictures of my trash on his phone, was rude, made us miss our flight) -NOVA -LAUREL -JAMEL (corporate representative I spoke with, no help at all)

We could step straight from the hotel onto the path beside the river, which was a lovely feature. The room was comfortable and looked out over the water, making mornings feel special. The setting was quiet and peaceful, and parking was free and easy. The on-site restaurant had a great atmosphere, especially in the evening, with seating both inside and outside. The food was good too.

Erin at the front desk was so friendly and helpful, and really went out of her way to make my stay great. I was there for four nights and had a fantastic time. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was good, and getting around from this location was easy.
