Super 8 By Wyndham Naples

I’ve stayed in much cheaper places that were twice as nice, so this was easily my least favorite hotel. Check-in was through a Zoom-style kiosk. The man was friendly, but hard to understand over the video call, and the kiosk kept having trouble accepting our payment. I confirmed right away with my bank that the problem was on the hotel’s end, so the process dragged on. When we finally got into the room, it smelled unpleasant. The bedding and towels were adequate but not great, and the bathroom didn’t feel clean. I wouldn’t recommend it. There were other nearby hotels at comparable prices that turned out to be much higher quality.

Room 117 was the worst hotel room I’ve ever seen. It looked as if someone had spent a year chain-smoking in it and just left. Ash was everywhere, on the floors, tables and vents, and inside the AC, so whenever it came on the room smelled even more strongly of cigarettes. Our clothes picked up the smell, and our luggage still smells like smoke. A towel we put on the floor came up black with ash and dirt. Nothing seemed clean. The sheets hadn’t been washed, and only three of the six pillows had clean cases. The other cases had stains and hair inside them. The bedding smelled of cigarettes, and sitting on it brought another wave of odor. One bed had blood stains and the other had stains we couldn’t identify. The floors hadn’t been mopped and had stains in several places. There were no trash bags, the toilet paper looked soaked, dried, and rerolled, and the counters had ash and old liquid marks. The freezer had food crusts left in it, while the mirror was speckled with mascara and toothpaste. After we reported the problems through the front desk kiosk, we were moved to room 120. It was cleaner, but still well below expectations. There was a hole in the bathroom ceiling where an apparent repair was no longer in place, and the bathroom smelled as if bleach had been poured all over it. There was hair in the shower head and still no trash bags. We also found an Allen wrench in one of the beds. The floor wasn’t covered in ash this time, but it still wasn’t clean. We have photos of all of this. We often stay at Super8 and Wyndham hotels and would like to remain loyal customers, but this was absolutely unacceptable.

We’d been skeptical because of past Super 8 stays, but this location did better than we expected. The room was very clean, including behind the desks and under the tables, and the exterior looked good. The pool was well maintained and the place was organized. Check-in and check-out were handled at the kiosk, and customer service was great. Breakfast was good, and Ben was super hospitable. I even appreciated the in-room dehumidifier. It was a little loud, but we didn’t mind because it helped. The beach is about 15 min away. I hope the whole team gets recognized for their hard work!

After a long travel day, I was pretty anxious about arriving. The bad reviews had me stopping at Walmart to buy cleaning and disinfecting supplies first. The place is dated, sure, but it was clean and comfortable. Late check-in is handled virtually and was easy as pie. For what it costs, I really can’t complain. If you’re after a five-star stay, pay for one and book somewhere else.
