Tollgate Inn

Our soccer team stayed here for a tournament, and the kids had a great time at the pool. The hotel had the basics and was clean. Renovations were going on, but we didn’t hear noise or have any disruptions. The adults wished the outdoor bar had been open. It looks like it could do well on weekends. Breakfast was basic but fine for us, with waffles, cereal, biscuits, bagels, hard-boiled eggs, toast, and other items. The hot choices varied each day. Staff were friendly and efficient. Our room faced I-75, so we heard some sirens when rescue vehicles used the highway entrance to get to Alligator Alley for accidents. We had a decent stay with no major complaints.

The pool was closed for maintenance, and nobody told us before check-in. The front desk employee who checked us in also seemed annoyed when I asked him to repeat the information he’d given me. That wasn’t great service. Still, the hotel was clean and smelled nice, and we enjoyed our stay. We’d come to visit Great Wolf Lodge again, but chose this nearby hotel to save money. It’s only six minutes away, the price was affordable, and breakfast is free. We wouldn’t mind staying here again.

I’ve stayed here on several trips, and it’s been a clean home away from home. My only real issue was waiting several hours to switch rooms. The drive to the beaches, shopping centers, movies, and downtown takes about 30-45 minutes, and there aren’t many dining choices nearby. Waffle House and Cracker Barrel are within walking distance.

The location is nice, the staff are kind, and the pool is nice too. The manager I spoke with was also kind and tried to help at first. But after spending that much money, I felt ripped off and wish I’d chosen somewhere else. I’d stayed here many times before, but I won’t return, which is a shame because I like the location. I booked a whirlpool suite for three nights and called to confirm. The man said it was fine, but when I arrived about an hour later, he said they’d overbooked and given the room away. The first room they moved us into didn’t have working AC and wasn’t close to what I’d paid for. The next night they gave us a suite, but the AC still wasn’t blowing; the room display showed 80 degrees, and the hallway thermostat wasn’t below 80 either. When I asked the overnight front desk guy, he said some rooms had AC issues and some didn’t have AC. I had to give up that room again. Also, residents are charged an extra $300 to their card.
