The Joseph, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Nashville

My girlfriend and I came from Texas for Valentine’s Day and wanted a special evening downtown, so we picked The Joseph in November and started coordinating early. Yolan was already fully booked for the day, but Eric arranged a 7:30 PM reservation at Four Walls and said he’d try to get us into Yolan at 8:30 or 9 if something opened up. He checked in with us now and then, which I appreciated. While we were waiting to check in, he emailed to say a 9 PM table at Yolan had opened up. We’d also requested special accommodations, and the reservation team had confirmed them by email, but they weren’t all available when we arrived. Maliyah at the front desk got her supervisor involved right away. Lindsey understood the problem and applied a room credit that more than made up for the inconvenience. There was a lighting issue in the room as well. Ommi sent a team to fix it urgently and gave us compensation beyond what I expected. I won’t share the details, but these moments showed how much the staff cared about putting things right. If you expect perfection, you’ll be disappointed. If you expect staff to respond when you point out a problem, they won’t let you down. I’d give the service 10 stars if I could. Lawson at Four Walls deserves a shout-out too. It’s a speakeasy bar on the hotel’s second floor, and I don’t know if you can get in without a reservation, so book ahead. Lawson makes every cocktail a work of art. He promised our drinks would be the best experience we’d ever had, and he wasn’t lying. At dinner, Alan at Yolan made spot-on suggestions and gave us an unforgettable experience. He kept our drinks full and the table perfectly set. There were imperfections, but they gave us a chance to see the care and gold-star service firsthand. Whether you’re looking for luxury, accommodations, or location, I highly recommend staying here. The staff are the real star of the show. Thank you to Ommi, Lawson, Lindsey, Eric, Alan, Maliyah, and everyone else for making those two days unforgettable.

The location was easy to get around on foot, and after I was dropped off from the airport I didn’t need an Uber or Lyft. The room was very spacious, but had some maintenance and attention-to-detail problems. Maintenance responded promptly and fixed everything. Housekeeping was less helpful: they couldn’t follow simple instructions about how many towels to bring or when to bring them, and didn’t clear the ice buckets even though I couldn’t get ice myself. For a five-star hotel and luxury brand, it felt overpriced and fell short of expectations. I’ve had better service at some Aloft hotels.

The staff were absolutely amazing, and Davionta was Johnny on the spot with our jeep, even warming it up when we needed. The rooms are nice, and the suites are even better. We had an amazing week, with Main Street an easy walk away and the Gulch a slightly longer walk or very short drive. We didn’t make it to the rooftop bar or restaurant, so that’s for next time. The service here beat what I’ve had at hotels with much bigger reputations and higher prices. I usually stay at premium hotels, and this felt like luxury-level service, better than my stays at places like Ritz, JW, and SLS. The room was very nice, though it didn’t have a fridge, which seems to be a trend these days. We only ate breakfast at the hotel. It was quite good, but the restaurant felt very hotel-like and didn’t offer the more elevated experience you find at many places now. The restaurant area left something to be desired, especially compared with the fantastic restaurant and separate bar at their sister hotel in Columbus. I’d highly recommend this hotel for its service.
