Sweet Cane Inn

Breakfast was worth the 15-minute wait. It was cooked fresh in the back and served promptly at 8:30 a.m., Southern time. The folks were super friendly, and the hospitality was amazing. The place was nice to visit, and the front porch was a lovely spot for coffee or an evening cocktail, with the world passing by. Just know Washington Street gets steady traffic all day. There's no elevator, so if you're thinking of booking a room on the third floor, be prepared for the stairs. I knew I was choosing a Victorian-style B&B, but I wish the site had warned me. The last flight is narrow and curves at the top. My wife doesn't pack light, and I would've chosen the second floor to avoid that extra climb. The room itself was pretty nice and had the essentials, including a shower curtain in place of a bathroom door. Some wives may not appreciate the sounds of nature from the bedroom, so plan bathroom visits accordingly. Front Street is walkable from the inn, but not when it's 90 degrees out unless you can handle the heat and humidity. We're from Louisiana, though we haven't lived there in 40 years, and man, it's hot. It's a good stay, just understand the place's limitations. The Victorian style means stairs, and it's better to sit out on the porch when the day's heat has eased.

The house is beautiful, and we really enjoyed our stay in Oleander. It was peaceful and private, and the breakfast was delicious.

The location was excellent, and check-in and check-out went smoothly. The rooms felt cozy and welcoming, and breakfast was delightful. Tiffany's crepes were the best I've ever had.
