Comfy, Freshly Remodeled Apt Near Nauvoo Temple

Suite 104 at the Zion Mercantile was spotless and had plenty of space. It felt like staying at our favorite aunt's house, and the building has a charming exterior. We loved being so close to the temple, and the view out the window was lovely. My husband worked remotely and the Wi-Fi was sufficient. The pool is at the other hotel, so driving there was a bit of a pain, but it didn't bother us much. Blackout shades would help, though, since the boys woke up with the sun. The clean, roomy space made up for it, and I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

We came all the way from Brisbane, Australia, and really loved the Nauvoo Hotel. Our room was spacious, tidy, clean, and homey, with a lovely view of the temple from the window. The Temple was right outside, and the Historic Village was handy to reach, too. We also liked the church art in the foyer and hallways. Having the BBQ place downstairs made dinner easy, and their burnt ends meat thingy was delicious. It's a new favorite for us, if we can find something similar in Australia. The Bookshop next door was a nice bonus.

The room was huge and very clean, and the bathroom was large as well. We slept comfortably in the bed until 8:00 am, though the children running and shouting on the stairs and in the hallway woke us up then. Finding check-in was confusing, but someone in the very busy restaurant, which smelled amazing, was able to get us a key. The pool is somewhere else, and you have to check in and out there. There's no late checkout. Still, the room was so clean and comfortable that I'd definitely stay again.

I remember this as a beautiful old hotel from my stay 15 years ago, but coming back now, it looks like it hasn't been maintained. The carpets were filthy, surfaces dirty, and the paint job sloppy. A historic place like this needs a serious restoration, not just DIY upkeep. The halls and rooms also smell like old greasy BBQ from the restaurant downstairs, so the hotel needs better insulation from it. To the owners, I really think you should take it offline during the offseason and restore the whole place.
