At 4:45 a.m., I woke up with wet feet because rain had come through the ceiling, even though we were on the first floor. I went to the desk five minutes later. The woman there seemed surprised and offered room 128, I think. I checked it first and found mold in the middle of the ceiling by the smoke detector, plus a big paint bubble above the sink. The desk said maintenance would be told. I expect they'll paint over the leaks and mold and rent the room again before the paint is dry. This happened on the first of the two nights I'd paid for, and I'm demanding a full refund for both nights. We had arrived late and tired after dinner, and customer service had been good when we got the room through Priceline. At first the room seemed okay, though it was a tired old hotel and I wasn't expecting anything grand for the price. Then I noticed peeling on the bathtub and what might have been mold under bubbling paint in a corner. I checked for signs of bedbugs and didn't see any. All the furniture was worn except the luggage stand.
The location is good, but there's not much else to say in its favor. Everything looked nasty, and there were gnats all around the sink. I saw what looked like poop stains on the towels and asked for replacements, only to be told they had no extras because their washing machine was broken. That leaves me wondering how many guests are sleeping on dirty sheets or pillows, or drying off with filthy towels. The Wi-Fi was completely out, so look elsewhere if you need to work or keep your kids occupied. They said, "we dont have control over this," but yes, you do have control of your own network. What you advertise and what you provide are very different. This was a gross, unpleasant stay from start to finish. Who doesn't have extra towels? I promise you'll find relief by staying somewhere else. We won't return to another Days Inn if this is what guests are expected to put up with. I genuinely think the owner is running slum housing, not a hotel. This is the epitome of a bad motel, and even a sleazy place would feel like a night and day improvement. Honestly, they should've paid us a $200 deposit for the problems we might have to endure. It's abysmal that a motel in this condition is allowed to operate. How do you run a place where nothing works?
Check-in was easy thanks to a friendly, helpful person at the front desk. The room was clean and well kept, and we found the stay comfortable overall. One thing for anyone passing through early: coffee or a quick snack isn't available until 6 a.m. The staff were accommodating, aside from that inconvenience for early travelers.
There isn't an elevator, and the rooms had a musty smell, though I don't know what caused it. The listing says "Free Breakfast," and a lobby sign calls it "Daybreak Breakfast," but all they had was coffee and juice. No cereal, eggs, pancakes, or waffles. It runs from 6 to 9, while most other motels keep coffee available all day. The people I booked through refused a refund, even though the front desk said they had no problem with one. I'll dispute the charges with my card company.
I've stayed here several times, and it's consistently simple, nothing fancy, just a place to sleep. The rooms are modest, but the air conditioning worked great and the price and location will bring me back. It's a very convenient, short drive to the beach. One morning housekeeping woke me around 7:30, chatting and laughing outside my room. My sink was also missing a stopper.
