Courtyard by Marriott New Bern

I stayed here two weekends ago, and the hotel seemed nowhere near full. I’m a Marriott Gold or Platinum member, I can't remember which, and asked about an upgrade at check-in. They said no. The next morning I got up early to look around for coffee, and the place was maybe 30% occupied. It was even less full the following night. The staff didn't seem to care about making customers happy.

I liked having a mini-fridge, but I wish there'd been a microwave in the room. The curtains were worn, cracked, and too short to keep the morning sun out, so quite a bit of light came in. Rooms are pretty standard and the rates feel high, though a lot of what you're paying for is the convenient spot near downtown. If you can get a room with a view, it's lovely. I'd stay again, but might also try a different hotel or B&B nearby.

Fawn checked us in and was gracious and full of useful information when I asked for tourist tips. Later, something unexpected made our stay difficult, and Jenn quickly arranged an extension and got us the supplies we needed. She really looked after us during a stressful time, and I’m grateful to both of them. The hotel itself beat our expectations too. It’s right on the waterfront, has plenty of free parking, and is an easy walk to downtown and a beautiful park. Everything was spotlessly clean. Life is good when kind, positive staff come through for you!

The restaurant manager is one bright spot, very professional and helpful. I've stayed here four times, and the location is great, but the room and service have let me down. The desk employee didn't make an effort to upgrade me, which has happened on two other visits too. I got an upgrade the first time. The shower wasn't clean, and I wouldn't recommend the hotel.
