Hill Country Inn & Suites - New Braunfels / Gruene

The bed was the only good part, and it was all we needed, but the rest felt off and weird. During the maybe 18 hours we were there, staff kept peeking into our room and tried to come in twice at 8 in the morning while we were sleeping, even though checkout wasn't until 11. Then when we went back at 10:20am, the cleaners wouldn't let us into the room. I would never recommend this place, especially not to two girls alone.

We had a great night of sleep here, mainly thanks to the very comfortable beds and pillows. My wife, sister in law, and I all thought the mattresses were perfect. I’d love to know their brand and firmness. We only made an emergency reservation because the hotel we’d booked first turned out to have roaches. We can’t say much about the other parts of this hotel, but the beds were a real highlight for us.

We booked just one night for a concert at Gruene Hall, since most places were full or ridiculously expensive. Pulling up, I worried it might be a bad stay and we'd end up sleeping in the car, something we've done before because we travel a lot. It looks like an old extended stay motel from outside, a bit rough around the edges, but the lobby and rooms were a very nice surprise inside. The staff were pleasant and friendly. The rooms have had plenty of cosmetic updates, including bedding and wall decor, and they looked just like the pictures. They were clean, with rough but clean, bleached towels and no stains. The carpet is worn but not terrible. The shower took a moment to figure out because you have to pull down on the underside of the spout. Water was really hot and had great pressure. Beds were comfy, not too soft or too firm, and the pillows were nice too. There was no microwave, but it isn't listed for this style of room, so check first if you need one. It looks like most of the suites have them. It's an older place, but for the price and with the usual travel expectations, it far exceeded what I expected. Just don't confuse it with the Country Inn and Suites by Radisson on the other side of the highway. I'd definitely stay again instead of paying much more elsewhere.

The AC worked great, and I found the room reasonably clean, though not spotless. I didn’t see any roaches or blood on the sheets, and I would’ve left right away and asked for a refund if I had. There are nicer hotels nearby, so this place would need to cost a lot less for me to consider it. I wouldn’t stay again. The photo shows how to turn on the shower, just pull the shower head down.
