Baymont by Wyndham New Buffalo

The room was larger than we expected, and the A/C worked well. We didn't use the jacuzzi-style tub, though. We usually prefer an upper floor because we've had noisy, heavy-footed guests above us at night, but the elevator was broken, so we were put on the first floor. Check-in dragged on, though the two men at the desk were nice. The older man was being trained by the younger one and spoke a language I couldn't understand, which felt a little unnerving. I guessed it might be Pakistani, but I don't know. The younger man seemed very patient, and I appreciated that the older man was willing to learn. There was a strong chlorine smell when we walked in, mixed with something else. I wondered if it was meant to cover another odor. In the bathroom, the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles were all empty, and I only noticed after getting in the shower. The tub floor was slippery and had no grab bar. I slipped getting out but caught myself before falling. The shower itself was adequate, but the towels smelled odd too. The bed was hard, the pillows weren't good enough, and the sheets had a strange smell. Breakfast was mostly hard to stomach. The instant eggs were burnt and not enough, and the orange juice was awful. The tables were packed so close together that people were practically on top of each other by the food. I won't stay here again.

The door locks didn't feel secure, and security was a concern. There was no hot water in the shower, and the bed board hadn't been cleaned. The room was awful, with dated furniture and carpet. The pool and hot tub had already been out of order for a while. A terrible place to stay.

I booked this place for my birthday getaway because I expected to use the pool and hot tub. At check-in I found out they were drained and under construction, and I had nowhere else to stay. Getting $10 off didn't make up for not being told accurately beforehand. I would've appreciated a full refund. Pretty much every amenity I needed was broken: no vending, elevator, laundry, or ice. The rooms were ugly and nasty. The heater thermostat was broken, so the room got hot unless I turned it completely off. The carpet felt sticky, and I had to wear shoes the whole time. The shower only let out a trickle of water because of a regulator, and my skin is itchy. I wasn't going to book another night.

At $98, I felt ripped off. The elevator wasn't working, and both the pool and hot tub were under construction. None of that was disclosed when I booked, so advertising amenities guests can't use felt misleading. The bathroom sink leaked badly and flooded the counter and floor. The hallway smelled strongly of marijuana, and the whole property seemed run-down and poorly managed. For that price, it was a joke. I've stayed in cleaner, better-run places for half as much. I'd book somewhere else, because this place shouldn't charge that much in its current condition.
