La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Houston New Caney

Every request we made was handled graciously, and I really appreciated it. I arrived before check-in because of circumstances beyond my control. Since it was Sunday and housekeeping was busy turning over the weekend rooms, the manager moved my reservation to a suite at the same price as my two queen bed room so I could check in then. I needed an extra night, and the front desk gave it to me at the same rate. I also had a 1:30 meeting on checkout day, so they let me check out later instead of having to sit in the parking lot at the meeting location. That kind of service feels rare these days. The hotel was clean and in good repair, and I had a very nice stay. I'd highly suggest it for business or a getaway. : )

My husband sometimes works in porter and new caney, so the five kids and I come along and enjoy the hotel. The kids like using the large, cool fitness room with its range of equipment, and we all like the clean pool, stocked clean towels, and convenient 0900-2200 hours. The free breakfast is a favorite, as are the complimentary coffee all day, hot chocolate, and range of specialty hot teas. All seven of us could stream videos without lag, so the WiFi seems fast. In the room, there's a nice-sized flat-screen with direct tv, plus HDMI and USB hookups. It would work better if the wall mount swiveled instead of staying flat, since the TV faces the King bed and the kids sleep on the fold-out couch bed at the other end. Still, the couch turns into a queen bed in one motion, no cushions to remove or find a place to store. There's also a chaise lounge attached, where my 9 year old sleeps comfortably.

Melanie was wonderful at check-in, friendly and knew the area well. The process was quick and easy. My room was clean and stocked. Breakfast was decent, though it was mostly sugary sweets.

The beds were comfy, the rooms were clean, and the staff were pleasant, but the facilities need work. On day one, there was no hairdryer in the room. I told staff and was asked to look again. On day two, I reported it to someone else, who said he couldn't help because he didn't know where to find another. The elevator was also out, so we had to carry our luggage up three flights of stairs. On day three, after asking a third staff member, I finally got a hairdryer. The elevator had stopped working again, and we reported it because we weren't walking up those stairs again. The pleasant woman on duty said it sometimes had problems, went into a utility room, flipped a switch or something, and got the power back on. As we got in, I asked if it was safe. She shrugged and said she'd check that we made it to the third floor.
