The care from the team at the Courtyard Marriott Yale meant a great deal to us during one of the hardest periods of my life. My family and I stayed there three times while my mother was hospitalized, including through her death. The staff treated us with grace, empathy, and professionalism throughout. This place is full of heart, and I’m forever grateful. When I became ill with COVID during one stay, front desk staff Andrew and Michelle were especially kind and attentive. In the middle of the night, they brought me ibuprofen and hot tea. The bartenders also treated us with real warmth and tenderness, which gave us comfort when we needed it. One day I was so out of sorts that I misplaced my wedding rings, and the head housekeeper personally helped find them and return them. I won’t forget that kindness.

The room was small but okay, and the bathtub was unacceptable. It came up only as high as my foot. Two ladies at the front desk were so lazy. I asked for a screwdriver, they called maintenance, and when he didn’t come, they picked up one that was right next to them and handed it over. The Starbucks is what was great. Joan worked there, and the food I ordered was great. She gave great service too. To be clear, my five-star rating is for the Starbucks inside the hotel, not the crappy hotel.

The rooms feel cramped, about the size of a Times Square room in NYC. I also got the sense this place used to be a motel. The shower wouldn’t turn off when we tried, but the front desk sent workers up and they fixed it quickly. Still, I’ve never run into that before. Yeah, I wouldn’t stay here unless you’re prepared for shower problems.

Amanda, the bartender, really made our quick overnight visit to New Haven. She was so kind and went out of her way to help. She said she was new at the bar, but clearly enjoys the work and the place, which says a lot about management. The room was fine. I just wish it had body lotion.

We had dinner at the Brick Pizza Oven and breakfast at Patricia's, both an easy walk away. The Yale campus is conveniently close, and the Bistro restaurant in the hotel is another option for breakfast or dinner.
