After driving more than 8 hours from Washington DC, this was a huge disappointment and the worst place we’ve ever stayed. We were so exhausted, and it was already dusk, that we didn’t look for another hotel. We slept in the clothes we’d worn all day and didn’t want to open our suitcases. We’d only brought them inside because it was dark in a sketchy area and we worried they’d be stolen from the car. In our assigned room, the window was boarded up but broken glass was still visible. There was mold around the bathtub, a damaged headboard that looked chewed, rusty dirty vents, stained furniture and carpet, and a puddle of urine in front of the toilet. When I called the desk, I was told nobody was available to clean and I could get gloves and spray from the front desk if I wanted. The receptionist wouldn’t adjust the bill or get a manager. She said the manager had left at 4 pm, she was the only person there, and she didn’t know if a manager would come in the next day because it was the weekend. She was deeply unhelpful, though she had managed to call someone when she couldn’t find our reservation and follow their instructions. She twice said the property was sold out, which I doubted since only about 25% of the parking spaces were occupied.

The bathroom was gross, with hair on the towels and mold on the paper towel holder. There was brown gunk along the sides of the table, and the carpet was stained and matted. The fireplace didn’t work, and the vent in the kitchen utility closet was caked with dust. It’s a one-star motel tucked behind the former owners, Marriott. Don’t be fooled by the rates, they don’t fit the property.

The staff were friendly, and the grab-and-go breakfast was surprisingly generous. The bed was reasonably comfortable, with good lighting and outlets. There’s a full oven, freezer, and fridge, though the kitchen has very little in it: no cookie sheets or baking pans, and the dishwasher was missing its flatware holder. The rooms felt run down, the closet doors didn’t work right, and there wasn’t a bathmat or enough towels. It’s a somewhat sketchy extended-stay motel and wasn’t what we expected. In fairness, we did seem to be the wrong demographic for the hotel.

The rooms were clean suites with kitchenettes, which made this older hotel okay for a roadside stop. Still, the renovation felt cheap, there was no breakfast, the walls were thin, and some things needed maintenance. I couldn’t figure out how to turn on the shower, only the tub, and the tub wouldn’t drain. For the price, I expected something a little nicer.

We found only two things that worked well: the refrigerator and the water pressure. The room was dirty wherever we looked, with damaged walls and dust everywhere. In the living room, the fan wouldn’t run and its blades were badly bent, as if it had been left out in the elements or humidity. The floor was so uneven we had to push hard to open the door. There was a musty smell, burn marks in the carpet, torn sheer curtains, and once we turned on the lights, the carpet looked severely soiled. We didn’t go barefoot except in the shower. Outside the room, the garbage and marijuana smell was unbearable. There was a security arm at the entrance, but it didn’t really keep unwanted people off the property. The location is next to a hospital and a large, dilapidated building with people living in cars in the parking lot. The front desk and office furniture looked rough, which should have warned me the room wouldn’t match the photos. The third-party booking site showed a 4.7 when I booked, and it has a 3.7 on Google, but this place isn’t either. I didn’t complain because my son and I had nowhere else to go and nothing could fix the room. Don’t stay here.
