Edge O The Woods Motel

The towels were thicker and softer than most hotel towels, and there were enough of them. The shower had a dispenser with shampoo and body gel, but there were no small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, makeup remover, or toothpaste. There wasn't any breakfast either. At $85 a night, I didn't feel the room was worth it. Other hotels nearby were $65 and included amenities, accommodations, and breakfast. I wish I'd researched earlier and stayed at one of those instead. The hotel is near a busy three-lane HWY, and semi Jake breaks and loud cars kept me from sleeping all night. I was assigned a room closest to the HWY, even though only one other room seemed occupied and there were rooms farther away. My room had no alarm clock, wall clock, or table clock, and the internet wasn't strong or steady. I was terribly disappointed.

The room was clean and nicely decorated, and the whole place looked recently updated. The bed was amazing, and the bathroom was very clean. Friendly owners checked us in, and entry to the rooms was secured with keypad codes. There was a Roku TV with streaming services, and we paid under $100 for one night. The main downside was traffic noise from I90/I94 if you want to relax outside the rooms. I'd recommend it and stay again if I'm in the area.

The owner was really nice, and the location was wonderful. I felt very safe, and it was so quiet to me even with the interstate right beside it. Probably one of the cleanest motels I've stayed in.

The WiFi was slow, though usable for basic things. The sink and bathroom were very clean, and the outside was kind of cute. Those are about the only good things I can say. It wasn't filthy overall, but there were some gross details, and it was a depressing room. There were four different hairs in the fridge. I can live with that, but it was gross and I expect more for the price. Four different hairs made it seem like a cleaner hadn't checked in there for a while. There was also a transparent piece of gunk on the bedspread. I didn't touch it, so I don't know if it was hard or soft. The desk employee or owner wasn't rude, but acted as if I was an annoyance. They handed me the key without telling me the room number or where to find it. The lighting was too dim during the day, then too white and glaring at night. The place absolutely stunk of perfumed soap and air freshener, which made it seem dirty. The TV was mounted unnecessarily close to the ceiling, so watching it meant contorting my neck. The motel was less than half full, but the three of us were put right next to each other. Most of what was wrong could be fixed with about $20 and ten minutes of work per room. The price was $89, more than the Super 8s I've stayed at. At $39, that would be about what I'd expect. As it was, it felt like a big ripoff. The owners could put in a little time and effort to make the place cute and welcoming, but the impression I got was that they hated running it, and I hated being there. There was no grout between the bathtub and the vinyl flooring, which was curled up. That means there's a good chance of mold or mildew underneath.
