Holiday Inn New London - Mystic Area by IHG

It’s a solid option for the area, with a great location, lots of parking, and a nice-looking restaurant downstairs. The Christmas decorations were really cute, and the hotel was clean and smelled clean. My room was basic and a little dated, but it had a huge mini fridge and a microwave. I only spoke with staff briefly, and they were nice. The city area is noisy, and I wouldn’t suggest walking around here at night.

Getting into the parking lot was frustrating. Nearly every gate was locked, which made driving around the building and finding a place to park confusing. There were other gates that could have been left open to make access easier. The breakfast was another letdown. I paid $18 a day for breakfast for my daughter and me, expecting more. The first morning it was a standard buffet, and drinks weren’t included. There were tip reminder signs everywhere, which felt excessive when the hostess only seated us. On day two, breakfast changed to a very limited menu, so we left to find food elsewhere. The package felt overpriced and misleading, and wasn’t worth it. Those issues made for a disappointing stay at the Holiday Inn New London – Mystic Area. For the price, I expected better, and I can’t recommend it.

The bed was comfortable, and the shower pressure was great. The heater and air conditioner worked really well too. The room lighting was much too dim, though, and there weren’t nearly enough laundry machines.

I picked this place for the location. Downtown and the ferry docks are an easy walk away. The hotel interior was clean, but coming back to litter all over the grounds and parking area was unpleasant. Management should take more pride in keeping the outside of the property tidy. The room and bathroom could use better lighting, and most of the outlets were so worn they were useless. The showers never got properly hot for me, just lukewarm, which wasn’t what I expected from a hotel.
