Budget Inn New Market

There were confrontations outside late at night. Our room, 104, was in awful shape: no lampshades, and the walls looked as though they hadn't been cleaned properly. The fridge and freezer did work, and the water was safe to drink. If that's all you need, fine, but if they offer you the last room, keep driving.

I didn't see any bugs, which was about the only plus. The room smelled, felt dirty, and had no fitted sheet. The old, cheap windows were left open to air it out. There was no curtain on the bathroom window, so there was no privacy, and it faced an old RV parked about ten feet away. It seems to have been there a while and is visible on Google Maps. In the morning I couldn't find any staff, and no one answered the phone.

At 39 weeks pregnant, I was expected to stay in a room with no working heat on a night when it was 29 degrees. I called the front desk, and it took them five minutes to bring over a space heater. They refused to refund me because I hadn't asked within 15 minutes of checking in. I was moving a little slower than most, and this was beyond unacceptable. If someone rents out a place, they should make sure it's in proper working order. I'll be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau.

For an inexpensive place to sleep while you're in the area, it was great. The room was old but clean, quiet despite being next to a highway, and felt safe. The night manager was quick to sort out any problems. There's no pool, but the room had cable TV, a microwave, and a mini fridge. The radiator heat was wonderful.
