There’s hardly any breakfast: they bought some bread and fruit and left a coffee machine with a few capsules, but it was all very basic. One hot night, cockroaches showed up in my room. There wasn’t anyone on staff who stayed around for long. The staff were kind and friendly, but the accommodation overall wasn’t good. This place doesn’t seem suitable for lodging. It’s a house where they sometimes hold events and have also decided to host guests. I got arrival instructions by email, but practically none of what was described was actually done.
Breakfast was a highlight. It had that fun B&B feel, with a chance to get to know our hosts, hear their local recommendations, and chat with other guests. We stayed for a weekend with our large family in several rooms at Degas House. David and the whole staff went out of their way to make the trip wonderful. It was a unique, lovely experience, exactly what we hoped for.
Joan is a descendant of one of Edgar’s cousins, and hearing her explain Degas’s time in NOLA was fascinating. We took the tour and thought it was well worth it. Definitely recommend!
The courtyard is a dreamy spot for an evening ceremony, and the space feels intimate without being cramped. We’ve photographed several weddings at Degas House, and it never disappoints. There’s a lovely mix of historic charm and NOLA romance. The team is great to work with and keeps the day moving while giving couples room to enjoy each moment. Highly recommend it as a venue with real character and a timeless feel.
The timeline of Degas in the main house was shabby, just papers with images taped to a wall. It reminded me of a temporary history project in a public grade school classroom. I attended an event in the adjacent building on the premises, and it was about 40 degrees outside and around 50 inside. The place looked pretty shabby. The fireplaces had no usual grates or frames, and the firebox looked like a rough, unfinished brick opening. There didn’t seem to be any heat in the space. A fake gasolier or chandelier near the front door was being held together with cable ties. Shabby, not chic!
