Hotel de la Poste – French Quarter, A Renaissance Hotel

The complimentary breakfast voucher for two didn’t make up for the problems during my four-night stay in a King Balcony Room. The crab cake on the Eggs Benedict was extremely hard and overcooked, more like stale bread than fresh seafood. My cappuccino was lukewarm, and there were numerous fruit flies around the bar area, which was unappetizing and concerning for cleanliness. The balcony was much darker and less inviting than I expected because of its high surrounding wall. Housekeeping often came after 3:00 PM, making it hard to get into my room and prepare for evening plans. The bed was made daily, but the sheets didn’t appear to be changed. Towels were taken without being replaced, coffee cups weren’t exchanged, and I had to ask for fresh towels and wash the cups myself. Coffee pods, creamers, and other supplies weren’t replenished. The biggest issue was the balcony door leaking water into the room. One morning I got out of bed and stepped onto soaking wet carpet. That was inconvenient and could have been a safety hazard. I’ve stayed at many Marriott properties and expect better maintenance, housekeeping, food, and attention to guests. This stay left me with a very negative impression of the property and reflected poorly on the Marriott brand. I hope these problems are addressed so future guests don’t face the same issues.

The bloody Marys and Gris Gris Margaritas at 3rd block were fantastic, and the croque madame was better than the French bakery. Go to 3rd Block for food and drinks, but skip the pool. This is a review of the pool only, since Resort Pass won’t let me review there. I live locally and booked a day poolside at Hotel de La Poste because of the location, reviews, and photos. It felt 100% catfished. The photos look ridiculously AI generated, and there was mold on the pavers and in the pool. So gross. It was a National Lampoons Vacation pool experience for real.

Staff were kind and helpful throughout, and I appreciated their hard work. The location was great, and I’d stay here again. French Truck coffee was better than any of the other coffee spots nearby, so I’d go there each morning. The courtyard rooms were nice, but I wouldn’t want one for more than a couple of days. There isn’t much room or furniture to settle in, and there are no hooks or bars for towels. The private courtyard was just OK, not worth paying extra for. The pool photos are warped compared with its actual size, though the pool is quaint and very nice.

Our premier king room was massive and very clean, and I loved that the curtains covered the windows completely. The only small downside was having no hooks for towels. I booked through the AMEX Hotel Collection for the price and location, right in the middle of most places we wanted to visit. The front desk woman was sweet and explained the perks. AMEX gave us $60 a day toward breakfast and $100 toward other food, drinks, the mini bar, and more. The hotel also returned the city tax as a $15 daily credit. We had drinks and dessert on a couple of late nights, and the bartenders were super friendly. We ordered room service breakfast each morning, and it was delicious and arrived quickly. There was also a $30 daily credit for local tours, but we didn’t use it since we already had plans. We had a fantastic stay, and I can’t recommend the hotel enough.
