I stayed at Hotel Saint Vincent for a business event. The rooms were quiet even though the hotel was full, and they mix modern touches with classic design, especially in the distinctive tilework. The whole place feels thoughtfully put together. The pool is on the small side, but it never felt crowded, and the poolside bar was a nice touch. Beers around $6 seemed fair, while cocktails at about $20 after tip felt steep. Elizabeth’s Café was a highlight, with very good food at more reasonable prices than the hotel bar. The bar itself was nice, just much pricier. The catered event food was also high quality and flavorful, though some dishes were saltier than I like. Presentation and execution were impressive. A storm came through one night. The property felt safe and operations carried on fairly smoothly, but the fire alarm went off before the tornado warnings. It was useful for awareness, though I felt it made the weather seem more alarming than necessary. I also had to change rooms because my booking agency had gotten the length of stay wrong. The front desk handled the mix-up graciously, even though I was sorry to leave a larger room for a smaller one. I had a memorable stay, with a few minor drawbacks.

The hotel is beautiful and in a great spot, with easy access to the St. Charles streetcar. I liked the room’s linens and atmosphere, and Kenny was especially kind and helpful. The lounge cocktails, a bird of paradise and a carajillo, were great. The bathroom is very dim, so bring a light if you need one for makeup. We arrived just before noon hoping for early check-in, which wasn’t available, and came back at 3pm for regular check-in. The room still wasn’t ready, so we waited until 4pm. Once inside, we found a partly drunk minibar bottle on the dresser. We reported it and got an apology, but nobody came to take it away. The next morning, late checkout wasn’t available either. I had the free drip coffee in the chapel room, which had some non-dairy options, then hoped to spend the afternoon at the pool. Instead, I got a text saying it was closed for VIPs. That was a real disappointment. At checkout, they told us we owed a $27 destination fee, which was the first we’d heard of it. I raised the problems we’d had; they apologized and waived the fee, but that was all they did. We stayed on a Sunday and won’t be back. There are some genuinely nice touches, but the service gaps and how they were handled left me conflicted. I can imagine the experience is great for VIPs, but I’d probably spend my money elsewhere.

The design and atmosphere are the big draw here. The 1861 building pairs beautifully with bold mid-century Italian interiors and lush tropical landscaping. I loved the red-tiled pool and the moody, elegant Chapel Bar. It feels more like an exclusive club than a hotel, with photo-ready corners everywhere. Five stars for the style and soul.

I spent two lovely days at hotel st Vincent. The area is beautiful, the design is clean and lovely, and the food was great. An unexpected cold snap caught me unprepared, though, and the room made it hard to sleep. The floor was ice cold, and there were no hotel socks or warm slides in the gift shop, so I had to walk up the street to an athletic store for slippers. I also wish I’d packed a sleep mask. Light came through even with the shutters and curtains closed. The fire alarm had a bright strobe blinking all night, the modem was bright too, and the thermostat kept flashing errors. The thermostat wouldn’t warm the room even when set to 85, so I slept in a velour sweatsuit, fleece hoodie, socks, and all the blankets. I told the front desk after the first night, but it still wasn’t fixed by the second, which made for a pretty miserable, cold night. Warmer pajamas would have helped. My room also had no desk for work and only one small clothes drawer, no bureau, so my things ended up in piles everywhere. That was manageable alone, but would be difficult for two people.

Maddie made my visit to San Lorenzo feel genuinely first class. She welcomed me right away and shared useful information about the St. Vincent Hotel, upcoming events, and membership options in a personal, easygoing way. She was warm, polished, attentive, and professional without feeling stiff. Management should know what a remarkable asset she is to San Lorenzo and the St. Vincent Hotel.
