The biggest draw is how close The New Orleans Guest House is to the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. It’s an easy, very short walk, so it worked well for a casual weekend when we planned to spend most of our time out. For the price, comfort, and location, it felt like a solid deal, and I’d stay again if I were coming back for the Bourbon Street scene. The older building has plenty of personality, from the creaky floors and vintage feel to the courtyard, which seems like a step back in time. It’s rustic, though, and not the place for sleek decor, plush robes, room service, or modern luxury. A good fit for couples, solo travelers, or friends who want an affordable place to sleep between outings.

I had my daughter and my dog with me, and we felt right at home. The beds were super comfortable, the rooms cozy, and I loved their quaint feel. The neighborhood was special too. On walks with my dog, I got to see architecture that really felt like New Orleans, and Louis Armstrong Park is only a block away. The staff were outstanding, so helpful and attentive. The location made it easy to walk to the places we wanted to visit. It was a very special vacation, and I’m so glad we stayed here.

Within an hour of checking in, we found someone else’s pubic hair on the toilet seat. The room also smelled musty, there was visible dust on the dresser and side table, and the floors were so sticky we couldn’t walk barefoot. We ended up playing “the floor is lava” just to avoid touching that unhygienic surface, especially after a shower. We booked a Deluxe Double Room for two nights expecting it to be clean and comfortable, but the online photos were misleading. For a 3-star hotel charging $160+ a night, basic toiletries were missing too. There was only one bar of soap. Room service wasn’t available after 9 PM. When we raised the problems, we got an unhelpful apology and were told to speak with the manager the next morning, after we were due to leave. It was one of our most frustrating and disappointing stays. Save your money and look elsewhere.

We brought our Frenchie and felt safe walking around the area. The location made exploring easy: we parked beside the hotel in the secure, convenient on-site lot, paid charge and all, and didn’t move the car until we left. The French Quarter, food, music, and sights were a short walk away. We stayed two nights in Room #5, an upstairs 1-bedroom with a bathroom and a HUGE balcony. It had a TV, fridge, A/C & heater, and fan, everything we needed. The hotel is old, but that suits the historic New Orleans feel. The staff were amazing, friendly, talkative, and knowledgeable about the area. They shared local tips and made sure we had what we needed. For a charming, well-located, pet-friendly stay with great service, New Orleans Guest House was a fantastic choice. We’d definitely return.

Getting to know the staff was one of the best parts. They made the stay feel personal and brought the kind of New Orleans hospitality and culture we’d hoped for. Housekeeping was consistent and easy to reach when we needed anything, and our room had a cozy balcony. The location felt safe and secure, and our vehicle was behind a secured fence, so I didn’t worry about anyone messing with it. We could walk to Louis Armstrong park, several great bars, and Treme Coffeehouse and Sprouts organic cafe, both of which had amazing coffee and pastries. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at The New Orleans guest house again. It’s in one of my favorite cities in the world, and we’ll definitely be back.
