WG Creole House 1850

We picked this place for its price, location, and parking, and it was good value for somewhere affordable near the French Quarter. You can park right in front of the house. There are good restaurants nearby, and the streetcar to the French Quarter is close. There’s a bus too, though I wouldn’t recommend taking it. The neighborhood has a lot of homeless people, rundown buildings, and people who seemed sketchy. If you’re a young woman, I wouldn’t recommend walking alone at night. Inside, the house smelled like there might be water damage in the walls. There’s nowhere to refill water on the property, though the room has a fridge and there’s a microwave in the kitchen. Melissa greeted us kindly and gave us good recommendations, but we hardly saw staff after that. You enter the house and rooms with keypad codes. Our room was clean and the bed was nice, but it’s a shared house, so the rooms are door to door and we could hear other people. The bathrooms are private, but outside the rooms, which was inconvenient. It’s an affordable place to crash if you mainly need to sleep and shower. If you want more than that or prefer a nicer part of town, I’d look elsewhere.

There’s no desk or chair for using a computer in the room, which was the main drawback for me. The bathroom also wasn’t in my room, but just across the hall. It was private and only I could enter it, so I didn’t have to share. WG Creole House 1850 is a lovely, affordable spot if all you need is somewhere to sleep. Just know there’s no daily room cleaning or bed making, more like an Airbnb or being at home. There was plenty of free street parking right outside. It’s near some good restaurants, especially Maïs Arepas on the corner of Clio St. and Carondelet St., and only a few hundred meters from the New Orleans streetcar. Bourbon Street and the French Quarter are also within walking distance. I’d recommend it if you’re fine with the setup.

We stayed the night before our cruise, and it was a lovely place to rest. Street parking was easy. My husband and I would definitely stay here again.

We came to NO by train, then walked about six blocks to the place. Entry to the building and the room was by code. It was clean and quiet, and I think there are four rooms. Ours was on the main floor. I sat in the living room before bed and made coffee in the kitchen in the morning.
