Residence Inn By Marriott New Rochelle

There are lots of places to eat within walking distance, and the grocery store is about 5 minutes away with a good selection. This is a nice option if you want an extended stay. The downside is that street-side rooms can be noisy, so ask for one on the quiet side. Also, the pool is dry as a desert, and kids will be disappointed.

Breakfast was the worst part. We arrived 55 minutes before it closed, but the only hot choices left were scrambled eggs and pre-packaged egg sandwiches. When we politely asked the kitchen staff to replenish what had run out, the answer was simply “No.” The next morning was much the same, so on day three we skipped breakfast at the hotel. The rooms and facilities are dated, and the hallways were dirty and smelled of pot. This hotel doesn’t meet general Marriott standards. I’ve stayed over 400 nights at Marriott properties and choose the brand for consistent standards. This place feels poorly managed and risks damaging the brand’s equity. I can’t recommend it.

I ended up having a peaceful stay, even though the snowstorm kept me shut in my room for two whole days. I’m from Florida, and the snow was absolutely gorgeous. I was there during the storm from 1/24-26. The front desk clerk helped me figure out rides and connect Netflix to my TV, and I appreciated the assistance. The location worked well for my visit, with plenty of eateries and a CVS within walking distance. The hospitality room had a nice range of choices. Remember that you have to scan your room key to travel between floors. If you stay near the street, expect to hear sirens and firetrucks. I assume there’s a station close by, and accidents during the snowstorm may have been the reason for the noise.

The room had a nice view of Long Island Sound, but keeping the two HVAC units working right was a challenge. We ended up turning off the bedroom unit and setting the one in the living area to 66 as a compromise. The toilet didn’t flush well, so you had to hold the handle down or flush more than once. The hotel could use some TLC and the maintenance is lacking. Breakfast was mid, just prepackaged sandwiches heated in the microwave. Parking costs $20 a night. FWIW, I’m lifetime Gold, so this isn’t my first Marriott.
