Islander Beach Resort

I love the Islander and it feels like our second home, so we’ll keep coming. We’ve been here every year for 48 years. But the rooms badly need renovation, and the beds and sofas are very uncomfortable. I’d love to see our favorite place updated to keep up with the times.

The rooms aren't fancy, but the pool, beach, and location make this feel like coming home each year. I've owned at the islander for over 35 years, and there are plenty of good places to eat in New Smyrna.

The beds need new mattresses. My back hurt all week, and I slept horribly because they were so uncomfortable. Construction noise ran from 8am to 530 pm, making it really hard to relax by the pool or read. Over the past few days, it got loud enough to hear from my room. The video was taken from there. They could at least let guests know about the work so people can choose another week. No common courtesy.

I've been coming for 25 years, and this is the first time I've felt like complaining. The unit was dusty and dirty, with stained furniture and no coffee table. The windows were dirty too, and the cookie sheets in the kitchen still had old food on them. In the closet, shelves had been ripped out, leaving the supports hanging on the wall. The bed had old blankets, one with a hole, and the sheets looked unchanged. There were only three hangers across three closets. I asked for more and got five.
