The big, well-equipped kitchen and nearby grocery store make this a great choice if you want to save money by cooking. The owners are friendly and helpful, while still giving you privacy unless you need something. It's a converted Brownstone in a really vibrant part of Harlem, so the rooms vary, but they're comfortable and each has a private bathroom. The rooms aren't fancy, just tastefully done. You can walk a short, safe route to the subway and the Apollo theater.

James greeted us when we arrived after flying into LaGuardia around 0900, and we got to the guest house within 30 minutes. He let us stash our bags so we could head out for the day. My daughter and I stayed in the Gulliame room and loved both the room and bathroom. It had everything we needed, including soft, absorbent towels. We didn't use the full kitchen, but appreciated having it available. The subway was easy to reach, and we felt safe walking there and back at any hour. On the way, we liked stopping at the Lenox coffeehouse for breakfast and a latte. Loved our stay, and we'll come back next time we're in NYC!

Our host was so kind and went out of his way to help before, during, and after our stay. We forgot an item, and he did far more than he had to to help us get it back. The Gino Room works really well for two or three guests. I'd absolutely recommend the 255 Guest House if you're after a wonderful, centrally located place to stay in Harlem.

The owner met me out on the street and helped carry my bag up to the room. It was neat, clean, and roomy. The location puts you right in central Harlem, an easy walk from good food and the subway.
