Classy and Cozy

The bar is a real highlight of this amazing hostel, one of the best in the world. It’s fun, friendly, and affordable, with drinks at just $6, around half what most bars in the area charge. Jesse, the bartender, is incredibly welcoming and has clearly put her own touch into the space. She really cares about guests having a good time. Since she’s stayed in lots of hostels herself, she knows what people there are looking for. She doesn’t just chat, she connects guests. I made new friends I’d never have met otherwise, all thanks to her. Keep going, Jesse! You’re the best at it!

The bar really is a 10/10, and for the price this is a great deal. I always choose this place when I’m in New York. It’s clean, roomy, and in a hard-to-beat safe location. I’d skip the first floor because it’s the loudest, and avoid rooms with more than 6 beds since they can feel cramped, uncomfortable, and short on airflow.

The cafe burger was one of the best I’ve had. There were daily activities too, from welcome parties and pub crawls to local tours, so there was always something going on. The huge building has good common areas, and I met lots of lovely people there. Getting around NYC, especially Manhattan, was easy with metro stops nearby. The facilities and staff were great, and I had an amazing stay earlier this month. I’ll be back next time I visit.

Jessie at the bar made it especially easy to settle in. She was kind, attentive, and welcoming to everyone, and helped create an inclusive atmosphere where it felt natural to meet people. Chris at the front desk also made check-in friendly and straightforward. I’d never stayed in a hostel before, and HI New York City Hostel was a memorable first experience. The place felt social, organized, and welcoming, with a real sense of community. I left with great memories and would recommend it to anyone visiting New York City, especially other first-time hostel guests.
