We liked our first stay in May 2010 enough to come back to New York in 2012 and choose the same hotel. The return started well: the receptionist was charming and efficient, the doorman recognized us, and having individual reception desks made check-in easy and quick. Our Loft suite was a highlight. It was clean and roomy at 100 square meters, with a spectacular view of Central Park. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless and well equipped. The staff stayed courteous, attentive, and welcoming throughout. Even when the bar was busy after the theatre on Saturday night, a lovely waitress brought us delicious cocktails promptly. Breakfast in the Japanese restaurant was very good. Blue Ribbon was excellent too, and I had lunch there every day. The staff seemed friendly and genuinely happy in their work, which made the stay more pleasant.

The bed was comfortable and the room was clean, so it met the bare minimum for a place to sleep. The location is also great, near the subway, Central Park, and shopping. Still, I would never book here again, even for one night. At check-in, the front desk staff were rude. My card was overcharged by some kind of mistake, and when I flagged it, nobody apologized. The shower was another problem. I called maintenance six times, twice at night and four times in the morning. A "maintenance engineer" came up twice without tools, and the shower still wasn't fixed. Bathing was horrible. For similar prices, I’ve had better stays at other city hotels with better amenities and more responsive staff. The location couldn’t make up for the poor hospitality and experience. Don’t stay here.

The subway entrance is right across the street, and you can grab bagels or go to Starbucks to start the day. After trying two other Manhattan hotels, I’ve settled on 6 Columbus as my NYC home base. I see the same doorman and front desk staff on each visit, and everyone has been friendly and helpful. For those who had bad experiences, have you tried being nice?

The walls are so thin that we could hear everything in the hallway at all hours. The room was also dark, with frosted windows that let in very little natural light, and the hotel didn’t look much like its photos. What really upset us was the floor. The hotel advertises "real hardwood floors," but ours were peeling up when we arrived. My husband badly cut his toe on what was clearly linoleum coming loose from the floor (see pictures). When we complained, the front desk sent someone to put DUCT TAPE on it. That’s insane for a place calling itself luxury. The location is good, but to me it doesn’t make up for a terrible hotel.

The location is excellent, but the reception staff were, without exception, very rude and discourteous. The $50 credit was another letdown, since it could only be spent on food or items at the hotel’s own store, neither of which interested us. I also felt the hotel charged too much for what it offered. Nearby, there are newer hotels with friendlier staff and lower rates that include breakfast. Before staying here, we spent five wonderful days at the RIU Times Square hotel. The staff there were attentive, the rates were lower, and breakfast was included, with no $50 surprise that made no sense to us. Our impression of the Hilton Times Square is that they care only about money, not their guests. Thanks for the opportunity to share our review, but we have no intention of voting for this hotel. Sincerely, Leonardo Garcia.
