The complimentary minibar is a great touch, and the team is happy to help, even with my constant requests for more Nespresso pods and hangers. The property has a classy feel and a real boutique atmosphere despite its size. It's not a new space, but the design is tasteful, and the lobby feels more like a gallery than a reception area. I'd definitely recommend it, especially if you need to be in or near midtown.

The location made it easy to explore: the New York Public Library was right across the street, with Bryant Park behind it. Times Square, Grand Central, the Empire State Building, and Rockefeller Center were all an easy walk. We walked everywhere except for a rideshare back to the train station. City noise did bother me while sleeping, but the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The evening wine was a nice extra, and there was a comfortable seating area by check-in with couches, chairs, and an interesting bookshelf. Our room was a Loft Suite upgrade, which was a lovely surprise. It was ready around 2 PM, about an hour after we first arrived, since early check-in wasn't available. Check-in itself was easy. The Andaz staff member greeted us warmly and offered sparkling or mineral water. Instead of a standard desk, the check-in area is an island with a decorative piece extending to the ceiling. The room was spectacular, one of the largest I've seen in Manhattan. It had a loft style, huge windows, and a minimalist look that still felt warm and residential. The shades and screens could block more light for sleeping. The bathroom was impressive, with glass counters and a rainfall shower that made me want to stay in there. There were two other shower spouts, one for feet and one wand on a slide bar. The minibar was thoughtfully stocked. Some things, including a chocolate bar, chips, and soft drinks, were complimentary; the other snacks and drinks were clearly marked for purchase on a printed menu. The Bar Downstairs & Kitchen has a speakeasy-style setup. A staff member told us the rat on the entrance sign represented a speakeasy from Prohibition days. Breakfast was delicious each morning, with plenty of choices and refreshing fresh juices. I especially liked the everything bagel with house-made gravlax, cream cheese, capers, tomatoes, and onions. The service was friendly and efficient. It got busier as the morning went on, so we were glad we came closer to opening. The staff made the biggest difference for me. Their warmth felt real, not scripted, which stood out in a city that can feel impersonal. Thanks to Renee W. for the pre-arrival messages and for helping make our special occasion stay so good.

For what I paid, I expected a bit more. I hadn't been to NYC before and didn't realize the suites would be so small, though I've since learned that living spaces there tend to be compact. Apart from a few mishaps, the stay was great. The hotel was fairly nice, the service pretty good, and I'd recommend it.

I used 35k WoH points transferred from Chase UR for a room going for over $900 in cash, so the value was fantastic. At check-in I was surprised with an upgrade from a base room to a suite, even though I hadn't asked and only have basic Hyatt membership, with no status. The room was beautiful and clean, facing west with a full view of 5th Ave and the NYPL. The bathroom had a great Japanese toilet with a wall touch panel for all its functions.
