Avenue Plaza Hotel

The front desk staff were courteous, easy to approach, and willing to do more than expected. My room was immaculate, and breakfast was delicious, with lots of tasty choices. This is the best hotel I've stayed at in many years. Keep up the good work.

As a woman traveling alone, I felt safe from the moment I walked in. That's not always how it feels in inner city areas. The hotel is in the heart of a Jewish area and is a Jewish kosher hotel, close to kosher restaurants and shops. It's a busy neighborhood, so don't stay here if you want somewhere quiet. I really enjoyed watching New York go by from my balcony. The place feels like a step back in time. The rooms aren't modern, but they're clean and warm, and the beds are extremely comfortable. The staff were helpful, and the room had a TV, coffee area, toothbrush, shampoo, mouthwash, tissues, and even a stand for a wig. The only small downside was no USB ports near the bed. I felt welcomed, helped, and protected, and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. If I pass this way again, I'd definitely come back and book directly with the hotel.

The shower was very good, but the soap was so bad that you should bring your own. I came for shabbos and didn't eat in, so I can't comment on the food. There aren't many other options around, so I didn't feel I had much choice, and I'm disappointed. For what you pay, it should be better. Please change the mattresses! The room is outdated, like from the 80’s, with peeling paint, a bad-smelling carpet, and a need for maintenance. The linen looks luxurious but isn't comfortable. The pillows are so soft your head sinks in, and the mattress is tiny and hard, with a rocking-chair feel. Getting into bed made me shake and feel dizzy. The street noise was very loud. My husband couldn't sleep, went home with back pain, and ended up with a headache from not sleeping.

The restaurant was great, the food was good, and the people and service were amazing. I loved the elegant rooms and plush carpet, and even the lamps and quiet toilet were nice touches. The bathroom was clean, the bed very comfortable, and the stay was excellent value. Couldn’t be happier, I totally enjoyed it and wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
