Gansevoort Meatpacking

The room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel's modern, energetic feel worked well. Its location in the Meatpacking District is the standout, with shops, cafés, the water, and breathtaking views just steps away. A few things could run more smoothly. Check-in meant filling out a form even though they also checked my ID, which made it feel unnecessarily long. My room had two double-twin beds that weren't connecting, and I don't understand that setup. It doesn't seem ideal for families or couples.

The room was clean and the hotel is well located, but the service was consistently terrible throughout my four-night business trip with a delegation. On arrival I was given a key to a room that was already occupied. Luckily, nobody was in it when I entered. I wasn't sure whether breakfast was included, so I asked reception. They said it was, but while I was eating, the waitress told me it wasn't, so I paid. I had also fully paid for an extra night so I could check out late for my flight. At noon, I found my key had been revoked while my belongings were still inside. Reception did nothing even after I showed them written confirmation, the hotel's voucher, and the manager wasn't helpful either. I left frustrated a few minutes later, four hours early for the airport. Half an hour after that, they called to offer me a chance to return and rest at the pool. I needed a private room to shower and rest, not free pool access on a sunless day. For a five-star hotel, why not provide a complimentary bottle of still water or even a coffee kit? There was nothing. I would never return. Personally, it was my worst experience in NYC.

Some rooms aren't great, so be careful. You might get one where the temperature gauge doesn't work, and they'll give you a heating fan instead. If you want a guest to stay, they'll charge $100 a day for a pull-out sofa bed, which should cost less. The kitchen closes at 10pm, really 9:50pm, and bottled water costs $8. Ask for a complimentary one and go to CVS for water at a better price. The penthouse suite is really nice if you get it: a two-floor unit with a fireplace, beautiful bathroom to relax in for hours, a see-through closet with motion sensor lights, and a killer sound system.

I've been staying at Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC for nearly 20 years, and the renovations have made a big difference. It feels fresh, modern, and more elevated while keeping the energy that's always made it a great place to stay. The restaurant options have improved over the years, too. The rooftop bar is one of the best parts, especially in summer. It has a great atmosphere and captures the Meatpacking District vibe. For a stay in the district, this is the ideal hotel: great location, beautiful updates, and always fun.
