The leasing office let us book an appointment, then was closed for a holiday when we showed up. No one warned us. That pretty much summed up the careless management. We also got no help when things broke: our microwave stayed out of order for more than two weeks despite several calls. The building was dirty, with filthy hallways and windows so grimy we could barely see through them. There was a weed smell throughout the building that kept coming into our apartment, even after we tried plug-in air fresheners. The constant smoke, lack of repairs, and poor management made this one of the worst housing experiences we’ve had. I’d tell anyone considering Sky to look elsewhere.
Kathy was especially bad to deal with, and I found the whole office irresponsible, dishonest, and incompetent. They rarely responded, and when I tried to sort something out, I could be left on hold forever. Maintenance often wasn’t handled unless I followed up every day, and they even denied receiving requests. There were also charges I believe were illegal: fees from other units put on my account, random overcharges, and forms with signatures I never gave. Building problems, including leaks from upstairs, could be left for tenants to pay for at move-out. In my view, there are enough issues here to warrant a thorough police investigation and a class action lawsuit. This is the worst management team I’ve dealt with. Avoid the building.
This place may look nice outside, but inside it’s a mess. On my first apartment on the 40th floor, the elevator kept wheezing constantly and I couldn’t sleep. They eventually moved me after I complained a lot, but in the new place the curtain fell down and still wasn’t fixed three weeks later, so I’m sleeping with no curtain right above my head. The AC starts getting water after it’s been on a while, and now my WiFi has stopped working too. Management feels nonexistent, slow, and unresponsive. This “luxury” apartment is cheap for a reason. You can find better deals elsewhere.
Richard Torres kept me updated and was so easy to communicate with that I trusted him enough to sign without seeing the place first. I’m glad I did. The studio is amazing, and I love it. Moving in was really easy, and everyone on staff was friendly and helpful.
The front desk staff were kind and welcoming, which was a small bright spot during my year at the Sky Building in Manhattan. My experience with the management office, though, was the worst I’ve had across the five countries where I’ve lived. Emails could sit unanswered for ages, and the office staff and leasing agents came across as cold, unprofessional, and disrespectful. Before I signed, the leasing agents seemed friendly and accommodating. Afterward, they became rude, unhelpful, and hard to reach, especially when I needed management to deal with a problem. The building is sold as “luxury,” but the service and care didn’t come close to what that suggests. It felt misleading and made my stay miserable.
