Holiday Inn Express Ft Hamilton

YAN at reception is wonderful. She chats with my family, shares tips for getting around the city, and has a great sense of humor. Everyone on staff has been very friendly, and Bill helped us with our reservation at just the right time, even calling me back around 11 p.m. It would be nice if Ft. Hamilton kept the hotel better informed, for example about whether a power outage would last as long as planned. Still, we love staying here, and we'd come back if we return to NYC. We're looking forward to continuing our stay, and I highly recommend considering this place.

The hotel is on Fort Hamilton base at 107 Schum Ave, right by the foot of the Verrazano Bridge, with secure parking and easy highway access. Bay Ridge restaurants are close, and the subway is about a 10-15 minute walk, with the R train going to Manhattan. It has a quiet, safe base atmosphere that works well for military visitors, families, or people driving in and out of NYC. Our room was clean and comfortable, with good beds, a modern feel after the remodel, and a handy kitchenette with a fridge and microwave. It's basic but functional and quiet. Staff were friendly, check-in was quick, and they helped with base information. The free breakfast had hot items and a solid variety. Good value with breakfast and parking included, especially for a budget NYC trip or military stay. I'd return. Four stars.

We stayed four days while visiting family, and being close to them was the reason we chose this location. It's also near a gas station, the Commissary, and the Exchange. The room was clean, and the shower water was nice and hot, probably because of the freezing temperatures. The coffee area was open 24/7 with hot water, coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. Breakfast was available, and there was a laundry room, though we couldn't use it because we were short on time. We were unfortunately across from the second-floor stairwell doors, so heard them constantly, along with noisy neighbors on one side. Things quieted down after people checked out. Please commend the long-haired receptionist with a ponytail who was at the desk around noon Friday, 1/23. She was extremely helpful answering questions and making extra room keys, and seemed friendlier, more approachable, and more positive than the other representatives. The lobby was pleasantly warm despite the issues. This was our second stay, and we appreciated the amenities, but veteran retiree rates seem a bit high; otherwise, we would have stayed longer.

The breakfast was a real highlight, with a great spread that staff kept replenishing. We felt safe and didn't worry about the car. Though the Inn is right by the highway, we couldn't hear it. We had a suite and needed a rollaway bed; it was comfortable, and the kids enjoyed it. The Inn was surprisingly nice, a little gem somewhat out of the way. My daughter also found a neat little rock under a tree. I'd recommend it 10 out of 10.
