Holiday Inn Express NYC Brooklyn - Sunset Park by IHG

I picked this place for the in-room fridge and microwave, and the convenient location near Chinatown and Industry City means I’d stay again if the price were right. The room was spotless, the sheets were very soft, and housekeeping did a great job each day. The bathroom felt modern, with a spa-like shower, although I wish the water pressure were stronger. Noise was the big issue. On my first night, a fire escape door by my fifth-floor room kept sounding like it was opening and closing all night. I joked that the hotel was haunted, especially with a cemetery nearby, but I didn’t hear it again on the other nights, so I guess someone reported it. Staff were loud in the hallways, and you could hear everything through the walls. The train tracks are right beside the hotel, though trains come through slowly. Thank goodness I always bring headphones.

Parking on the street was a bit tricky, but I later realized there’s also a lot attached to the building. Devin greeted me warmly and checked in after I’d been in the room a little while to see if everything was okay. The next morning I noticed the trains right behind my room. I called to ask about switching rooms. Two women at the desk said they’d call me, but they never did. When I called back, they confirmed they couldn’t move me and offered earplugs instead. They were still pleasant about it. Vitali was also pleasant and managed to extend my checkout. Breakfast was a nice touch, and I’d stay here again.

I found it good value for the quality and would recommend it to friends. Getting around NYC was easy thanks to the convenient public transportation connections nearby. The hotel has a warm, family-friendly atmosphere, and the room and bathroom amenities were good. I also appreciated how clean the room was and how well it was serviced every day. Breakfast could use more variety and better quality, though the coffee tasted delicious. A bottle of water in the room would be a nice courtesy. I enjoyed my short tourist visit and hope they keep it up.

For a Holiday Inn, I’m giving it five stars. The rooms were really, really clean and the service was friendly. It’s in a nice spot, with the MT subway about a four-minute walk away, and tacos el bronco close by. I wasn’t wowed by breakfast, with all the plastic stuff, but you get something to eat, so keep your expectations realistic. Still had a lovely stay and would definitely come back.
