We usually stay in SoHo, but picked this place for its theme. I was worried it wouldn't be a good experience, but the doormen, front desk staff, and housekeepers were all kind and efficient. The rooms are tiny but adequate since you don't spend much time in them. I reacted badly to the bamboo lemongrass body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. The front desk immediately brought up fragrance-free bar soap, and I had no more issues. We ate breakfast at the restaurant each morning and dinner there once. The French onion soup was top notch, and my husband loved the salmon at breakfast. The wait staff were nice, though they could've refilled our coffee more often. The Bookmark bar upstairs had a great vibe and ambience, but its staff weren't as good as the rest. The tiramisu was delicious. The reading room has sodas, assorted fruit, bottled water, and a coffee machine, but it wasn't close to being worth the $25 a day fee. The hand sanitizer stations around the hotel were all empty, which was disappointing. I was also concerned that room keys aren't needed for the elevator, so anyone visiting the public restaurant or bar could easily get to any floor. Grand Central is very close and makes getting around easy. The area doesn't have much of a neighborhood feel, though, and nearby there are few restaurants or shops beyond fast food. We enjoyed staying here and thought it was worth experiencing the library hotel once, but with so little to do nearby, it'll probably be a one-time stay.

I had a great birthday stay at the Library Hotel. They let me check in early and left a birthday gift in the room. The room was a good size for NYC, and I loved the book theme. It felt classy and well integrated. The hotel bar and reading room lounge were both incredible. The entrance is a little hard to find from the street. Highly recommend!

Dinner at the on-site restaurant was really good until dessert, when we got a dry brownie we barely touched. After paying, we went back to the hotel lounge and the concierge abruptly accused us of not paying. We'd left cash and a 25% tip in the billfold. I went back downstairs to check, and everything was as expected. The wait staff had simply failed to look at the billfold on the table. The concierge apologized, but neither the restaurant nor hotel made any effort to address the public accusation. The room was okay, though the bathtub didn't drain well. The “library” theme felt surface-level at best. They charge an additional $25 a night for a library-themed dining area stocked with less than a budget hotel's complimentary continental breakfast. Disappointed overall, and I wouldn't recommend it.

A great place to stay in Midtown. The room was custom themed and larger than you'd expect by NYC standards, and I loved the library ambience. The reading room had coffee, water, and snacks. Oscar was super helpful in getting us gym access. I'd stay again.

Loved the library details, the comfortable beds, and the drinks and amenities in both the lounge and rooftop bar. The service was wonderful and the location is great. Fantastic hotel. I'll definitely stay again next time I'm in NYC.
