OYO Times Square

The staff were very pleasant, from the front desk and housekeeping to maintenance. The location was another plus: a block and a half from Time Square, and a couple of blocks from Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and other attractions. The room and amenities weren’t worth the $1700 I paid for three nights. I’d booked a king bed, but got a full at best, thin and set on a wobbly frame with support springs. The room was small, which I’ll excuse in NYC, but it had only wall hooks, no closet, dresser, iron or ironing board, or mini fridge. The walls needed wiping down, too. It felt like a European hostel room. The white towels were cheap, worn, frayed along the edges, and had a very low thread count. OYO, for that price per night, you could at least provide towels that aren’t falling apart. I’d give the location and friendly staff an A+, but the room and amenities a D- for what you pay.

Maria at the front desk was an absolute delight. She was so helpful and friendly, and all the staff were knowledgeable and pointed us in the right direction. They kept our luggage safe on our last day. The one surprise before arrival was the $500 holding fee, which came out of our spending money. We had the biggest room in the hotel. It was clean and tidy, the walk-in shower was good, and the air conditioning and TV both worked well. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh bedding and towels. The bed was a little uncomfortable, but it met our needs. We came in November and are coming back next year. Overall, a great experience.

The location was good, but after two nights we left to find somewhere else. The staff were polite, though they seemed largely indifferent to the hotel’s condition. There are far better options nearby, and a good location doesn’t make up for poor cleanliness and basic maintenance. Don’t waste your money, stay somewhere else. Our first room was especially unpleasant, with dozens of dead fruit flies covering the bathroom ceiling and upper walls. We had booked four nights through a travel agent, but asked to change rooms after just one. Staff moved us fairly quickly, then said ceilings weren’t part of their cleaning routine, which was surprising given how dirty they were. The second room wasn’t better: its broken bed frame had been tied together with zip ties by maintenance, and was unstable and uncomfortable. The air conditioning was extremely noisy, which seems to be a known issue from other guests’ reviews. The hotel was in a very poor state and far below what we expected. Both rooms were cramped, tired-looking, and not properly maintained.

I stayed at OYO Times Square from 15 January 2026 to 19 January 2026. My Booking.com confirmation number is 7843736256226895687. I’m posting to document that the deposit issue is still unresolved and to ask hotel management or OYO corporate support to intervene. I was charged a USD 400 security deposit at check-in. At checkout, the front desk explicitly told me it would be automatically released that same day, but it still hasn’t been refunded. Booking.com directed me to contact the property. When I called hotel reception, a staff member said he couldn’t check deposit refunds and told me to contact the head office or general manager. He then ended the call without giving me their contact details. I’ve tried several times by email, phone, and official social media channels, but haven’t received a response or resolution. I request immediate release of the USD 400 deposit and written confirmation of the refund transaction. Until it’s resolved, I can’t recommend this property. I sincerely hope management addresses it promptly and professionally.
