Times Square Studio

The location puts you right among the bars, restaurants, Times Square, and all the shopping you could want. The room was misleading, though: the linens looked dirty, and so did the shower. I’d recommend it for location only, and would bring your own sheets and towels. We didn’t sleep at all because the tenants upstairs partied from 2:30 AM to 8 AM, stomping across the floor. If you bring children, be aware. We learned that New Yorkers party late into the early hours on Fridays and Saturdays. It was my first time in New York, and I had a wonderful time. There’s lots to see and do, and you won’t be disappointed.

The location is great, just a minute’s walk from Times Square. The place was in decent shape, a little old and dated but nothing too bad. The beds weren’t as comfortable as I’d expect in NYC at this price. There was a portable heater, and the TV and phone worked. All in all, not bad.

The location seemed promising when we arrived, but the room and building were awful. There were cockroaches in the room, yellow stains on the beds, and a strong gas smell in the bathroom. The shower area was badly moldy, and the bathroom fan screeched the whole time. We ended up showering in the dark to avoid the noise. Getting to the room meant climbing five filthy, unsafe flights of stairs, and the building smelled strongly of smoke as soon as we entered. Around 6 a.m. each day, dirty takeaway food smells from outside woke us up. Calling this disappointing barely covers it. I wouldn't recommend it.

The location was fantastic, but several things in the room needed attention. The sink was cracked and drained slowly, and the bathroom tissue holder was missing. The toilet door knob was broken, so there was no way to lock it while using the toilet. Hot water took at least five to seven minutes to become tolerably warm, though never hot. The blinds, microwave, and window AC unit all felt very cheap.
