The Fifty Sonesta Hotel New York

When my younger sister and I ran into trouble at the start of our New York trip, Romeo the doorman stepped in and made sure things worked out. He was attentive, kind, and genuinely caring. His warmth and professionalism helped turn a stressful moment into a positive one. Please pass along my deep thanks to him from the Sullivans. He made a real difference, and we’ll remember how he helped us when we needed it. The hotel was beautiful, clean, and comfortable, and the service from the whole team was excellent. We felt welcome and well looked after from the moment we arrived. Thanks to Romeo and everyone else, our trip began and continued on a high note. I’d absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

For the price and location, the rooms are top-notch: clean, spacious, and with lots of amenities. The staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. I’ll definitely stay here again.

We brought our two little ones for a long weekend. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the lobby and business area were nice. The hotel is small, and we’d hoped there’d be a bar, but you can buy drinks and there are plenty of restaurants nearby, including a steak house next door. The room was clean, the beds were really comfortable, and we had a nice view of the surrounding businesses. The rooms felt more like three-star rooms to me, though: some paint was peeling and parts of the desk were falling apart. We didn’t ask to switch rooms, but ours didn’t have a tub, which made bathing the kids a challenge. We managed, and we’d stay here again.

The three doormen, Romeo, Marco and Manolo, did everything they could to make me feel at home and help me out. Barbara from Poland, the housekeeper, was extremely efficient and friendly. When I had a cold, she even brought me tea from her home. I tipped them generously. Reception, on the other hand, didn’t resolve several concierge issues and didn’t seem concerned about helping. The industry’s move toward less human contact and quick check-in and checkout misses how much hospitality and making a guest feel safe and at home matter. I stayed at the Fifty Sonesta Hotel in NYC for 10 days. My first room had a bathroom leak, and the hotel upgraded me to a better room with a balcony on the 18th floor. I thought that was very generous. The elevators aren’t especially quick or large, but they do the job. Overall, I had a good stay and would book again, hoping reception takes a few lessons from the “lower” staff, who still understand the value of hospitality.
