The location is pretty good, right above a very good BBQ place, voted best in Queens. They do play music later, but earplugs were provided and did the job. The bathroom was good, though the blinds were poor, so an eye mask helps. The room was basic, with a small fridge and no TV, and no storage like a wardrobe or chest. It’s okay for the location, but nothing special.

The room looked nothing like the Airbnb listing, and the WiFi didn’t work, which was a big problem with two kids. The rug was stained and wallpaper was peeling. At $400 a night, it was absurd for what the place looked like. Two nights cost me $800, and it wasn’t worth it. Shady company.

The rooms are small but adequate, with fun, quirky decor, and the beach location is great. Still, for what the room costs, the customer service should be much better. The lock code didn’t work, and I spent an hour trying to reach the remote property manager to get inside. I couldn’t access my email, so I called the “emergency” number four times. Each time they said they’d pass the message on, but nobody called back. It was an infuriating way to start a vacation.

The bathroom was recently updated and in excellent shape, and the place is close to the beach. Those are the only reasons I can give it one star. I stayed for 10 days at the end of September 2023, and I wouldn’t recommend it. It took more than an hour to get into the room on my first night, after I’d already spent 30 minutes lost outside. The sign was small and poorly lit, and the listing didn’t say the rooms were above a BBQ restaurant. The first code didn’t work, and the concierge’s replacement code failed too. After several instructions to jiggle the handle and pull the door, the area manager came and had to use a key because both codes were wrong. The window was stuck open with no screen. I emailed for two days before the manager came back to fix it. On the second night I found roaches near the mini-fridge, and saw more at least three other times, including one crawling under the bed on my last night. Some nights the restaurant music was loud, though they provided several sets of disposable earplugs. The smoker was a bigger problem. My clothes and face mask smelled of BBQ smoke, and the room was filled with a smoky haze almost every day. My eyes were dry and burning, and my allergies were seriously aggravated. Even my travel blanket smelled strongly of smoke when I got home. I emailed the management agency about all this so they could address it, but the only reply I’ve received was, “we’ll look into it.”
