The Lowell

It was our first stay at the Lowell hotel, and we had such a lovely weekend. For Thanksgiving, we booked a room with a fireplace, and it made everything feel extra cozy. The service was premium, and I loved being able to have someone start the wood-burning fireplace at any hour, day or night. Falling asleep beside a crackling fire on a cold NYC night was the best. We also loved the downstairs bar, and breakfast in the morning was top notch. I’m sure the hotel is just as fabulous in warmer weather, but I especially recommend it in fall and winter.

The bathrooms were clean, but the bedroom wasn’t. A quick swipe across the books on the bedside tables would have shown an unacceptable amount of dust. The mattresses were worn out, and the TV and media system were so outdated they made the place feel like a two-star hotel. On another occasion, our Whole Foods groceries, mostly full water bottles, were apparently mistakenly treated as trash and taken away. In-room dining was far more disappointing than it should have been. The front desk staff and concierge were amazing. I raised my concerns directly with Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts. Patricia, the manager, promised to email me about them, but I never heard back. Overall it was a disappointing stay, especially with so many great alternatives in the city.

Jessica made the afternoon feel special from the start. She kindly handled a last-minute reservation change, then came by later to check that everything was going well. We had a nice conversation about how much thoughtful hospitality can add to an occasion. Fabio was just as lovely, attentive and professional throughout. My wife and I came to The Lowell Hotel in Upper East Manhattan for our 14th anniversary. We’ve tried several popular afternoon teas around the city, but this one really stood out. The Lily of the Valley Afternoon Tea, created with Dior Maison by the Majorelle team, was beautiful in every way. The food and tea were exquisite, and the floral arrangements were stunning, especially for my wife, who’s a florist and longtime Dior admirer. It was an elegant, intimate, unforgettable afternoon, and I’m glad we celebrated here.

For a milestone birthday, The Lowell Hotel made a wonderful setting. The classic elegance, attentive service, and central location all helped make it feel like a real celebration. It’s a place to stay when you want more than just a room, with a relaxed kind of luxury and an experience that can leave you with lovely memories. It felt like a New York home away from home, and a getaway I’ll remember for a long time.
