The room condition was shocking for the price. During the Christmas period, we paid around $5k for three nights in a Madison King room. I know holiday rates run high, but the room was dirty, noisy, visibly old, and poorly maintained, with dust, stains, and grime everywhere. The soundproofing was poor, and even the fridge was unusually loud. When we raised these problems, the manager offered an upgrade. Staff helped move our belongings and specifically noted the two refrigerated gifts in the fridge, but both disappeared during the move. The replacement Park Studio was worse. Its bedding was wrinkled and looked unkempt, with visible stains, limescale, water marks, mold in the corners, cracked walls, and food residue left in the oven. For a hotel with this reputation, it was unbelievable. At this price, guests shouldn't have to put up with these conditions. Paying more should bring comfort, not frustration. If location is the reason you're considering The Mark, there are other luxury hotels one block away. I haven't stayed at them myself, so that's not a direct recommendation, but it's hard to picture them being worse than this.

Being close to the park is the main advantage, and staying in your room is pleasant enough. Away from there, the hotel disappointed me. The lobby feels uninviting, and the hotdog stand outside makes the whole ground-floor front area, including the bar, smell of hotdogs. It has the opposite effect from coffee. The dining room was especially gloomy and unappealing. I saw a woman eating takeaway pizza from a box beside me while I paid $12 for a ginger ale. It doesn't feel worth the money, and its hedonistic utility is low. They make a point of the John Lobb shoe cleaning service, but the man said he couldn't clean my suede shoes. I hope I never have to stay again.

I've worked across the street for 13 months and dealt with the same front-lobby people. The staff have been rude throughout, and today a doorwoman made accusatory, derogatory remarks and insulted my character, despite knowing I was there five days a week. She has a Mercedes and the doorman has a BMW, and they acted as if they had an inflated sense of importance and no communication skills. They seemed to be looking for a payout from me while parked on an NYC street. I filmed and documented it for my records. It's a sad situation, and I feel bad for her. With rooms priced so ridiculously high, you'd think they'd hire people with a certain level of quality. Staff with such nasty, rude, accusatory attitudes shouldn't work in hospitality. The employees act like they own the street, and active so.

An iconic property, with some associates who are very professional and know the expectations around hospitality, food, and beverage. The food is solid enough, more or less, but not exceptional. Chef Jean-George needs to address that.

My $600 lv scarf went missing. When I called to ask if the hotel had found it, they hung up without answering. I called again and got the same response. Pretty sketchy for an upscale hotel.
