The Nolita Express Hostel

The medium vintage pod gave me plenty of room to unpack and stretch out. The hostel was pretty good overall. I just wish there’d been more airflow in the summer heat. The nice showers helped a lot, though. There wasn’t any drinking water on the 4th floor. To get some, you had to go to the only female floor with an employee.

I’m grateful for a peaceful stay and a great night’s sleep, and thanks for not having any TV. You’re healing the world. I left for Ohio feeling rejuvenated. The staff really raise the standard of this amazing venue. Steeve’s politeness made me feel safe coming back, and Gonzalez and Edgar also gave quality service. I’ll be sending my colleagues who travel for medical conferences, and I host many UN conferences attended by people from all over the world.

For the price, this is one of the more affordable places in central Manhattan, with an excellent location and lots to do nearby. I was traveling alone and appreciated the women’s-only floor because it felt safe. The basic idea behind the place is a great one, and I’d recommend it for a night or two if budget and location matter most. A few things to know: there are no elevators, so heavy or multiple bags mean several flights of stairs. The cabin rooms have open ceilings, so you can hear doors slamming at night. There’s a no-noise policy that keeps things fairly quiet otherwise, but those doors are hard to avoid. The bed only came with a sheet, so ask for a blanket if you get cold. The shared bathrooms were my least favorite part. The showers are tiny and there isn’t much privacy. It gets crowded when several people are changing or brushing their teeth, and with so many women using the facilities, I think the bathrooms should be cleaned more than once a day to stay fresh. It’s not a luxury stay, but it’s a solid central option if you’re watching your budget.

Think of it as having your own private space within a big dorm room, and this is a fantastic option. The place is clean, the people are nice, and the facility is great. The bed’s okay, but it’s a hostel, so what do you expect? The lack of ceilings between rooms is the one real drawback. You can hear every move next door, even someone packing a bag.
