The St. Regis Residence Club

The room had a very loud AC closet whenever the air conditioning ran, with water sounds like a toilet flushing nonstop. The butler service was a bust too: he didn’t come when I rang, and cutlery took 30 minutes and two calls to arrive. Water wasn’t regularly replenished. Worst, he came into my room at 9pm for no apparent reason, after turndown service had already been in. I was in bed, half naked. When I challenged him, he rudely told me to “just put the privacy sign on.” This was a laughable experience for a five-star hotel charging several thousand a night. I’m in NYC every 1-2 months and hoped this would become my regular hotel, but I won’t be back.

My number one hotel experience ever, and my favorite in New York City. The St. Regis New York feels classy and unforgettable, with historic architecture and charm alongside modern comforts. The technology is terrific, especially the distinctive lighting controls, and the attention to detail is unmatched. It’s elegant, exceptionally well run, and just the perfect size. The food is always delicious and beautifully presented, and they’re accommodating with children’s menu options.

The room was otherwise fine, but I wouldn’t return. We’d just checked in when I found cigarette odor and ash around the room and texted the front desk. Rather than apologize, move us, or offer an upgrade for a room that clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly, they blamed us and said they’d charge $1000 if they found smoke next time. We were the ones who reported it. No one followed up, apologized, or tried to make things right. At $1000+ a night, I expect a clean room and courteous service, so I’d look elsewhere.

I arrived early and got into a room right away by accepting a slightly lesser view. The service, staff, location, and hotel offerings were all top notch. I made use of the laundry, turndown, and onsite breakfast, and enjoyed what was available. I slept better than I have in almost any hotel, and still have the personalized handwritten card thanking me for staying. I’ve told lots of people about the visit. Maybe this is normal service for a hotel of this caliber and I just hadn’t experienced it, but it felt a notch above the rest.
