Voyage Hotel

The rooms were pretty standard, but comfortable enough as a base for my trip. What stood out more was how good the service was and how convenient the location felt. I had a very positive stay at Voyage Hotel, and four stars feels right.

The hotel sits in an industrial part of New York, with construction and manufacturing businesses, taxi bays, auto body shops, and food carts stored there overnight. It can look rough, but my husband and I walked around late at night without any trouble. We were also close to plenty of good places to eat and an interesting terracotta building by Queensbridge. The room worked well for what we needed, and I loved that housekeeping cleaned it every day. Several places were within walking distance, including the F, N, W, R, and 7 trains, the Noguchi Museum, Museum of Moving Image, and MoMA PS1.

The room was fine for sleeping, and they let us leave our luggage by the front desk. Just be ready to bring $60 in cash for the deposit. They said it would be returned as long as we didn't cause any problems. The TV showed a solid blue screen. There was no kettle, cups, glasses, coffee mugs, or machine, just towels. The nearest MTA subway is about a 15-minute walk, and after dark the walk from the main subway line felt very sketchy. We came at Christmas and had no other choice, but I wouldn't pick this place at another time. The reviews were pretty much what we got.

The front desk guy was friendly when I checked in, and housekeeping was great. I never had to call for towels or anything. There's a mini fridge in the room, plus a microwave in the lobby, and a breakfast spot right outside to the left, with other good food within walking distance. It's about a 13-minute walk to the closest subway station. I take budget trips with my husband every few months, and this hotel did what we needed while saving us money. No complaints, and I'd book it again.
