Residence Inn by Marriott Newark Silicon Valley

The staff at the front desk have always been good when I've needed them, but I barely interact with hotel staff, so that's not what drives my rating. On my repeat work stays, the first room had an incredibly loud HVAC unit, and the Wi-Fi was nearly unusable on the next two visits. Pretty wild for a Silicon Valley hotel. The elevators are also among the slowest I've seen. They could use a properly configured Ruckus system with 802.11 k/v/r client steering. One smaller thing: there's no little bottle of hand or body lotion, which would've been nice when the weather left my skin so dry.

We had a lovely three-night stay. Our suite had plenty of room for all six of us, and having a kitchen made it easy to cook and wash baby bottles. Everything felt clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly throughout. Stores and restaurants are an easy walk away, with some great attractions and events nearby too.

Breakfast was good, and the staff were kind and helpful. I'm especially grateful to Selu. Some parts of the hotel could use an upgrade, though. The sofas look worn and torn, the carpet feels dated, and there's an unpleasant smell in certain areas.

The tub looked dirty and stained, some towels had black streaks and didn't look clean, and there was only about a quarter of a toilet paper roll when we arrived with no extra toiletries left for us. The place also feels pretty outdated. We spent two nights here, and my S/O is an Ambassador Elite member, but was denied an upgrade. That has happened at other Marriotts as well.
