Compass Rose Inn

Room 3, the king suite, was huge and comfortable, and the B&B is well placed near downtown. Breakfast was a good-sized spread with a hot egg dish, pastries, yogurt, fruit, toast, oatmeal, and more. They can handle special dietary needs if you let them know the day before. We’d definitely stay again.

We had the pink suite for two nights. It was spotless, and the bathroom was very clean and had what we needed, including an extra sink and a towel warmer. Tea, coffee, and ice were always available. Breakfast was better than the usual hotel complimentary kind, though just okay for me since I’m picky about coffee and breakfast. I do wish someone had come by to greet us during our stay. Still, we had a lovely visit at Compass Rose Inn.

The rotunda and widow’s walk on the top floor were the highlight for me. Both nights, while the young people were out in town, we sat up there with wine and enjoyed the view and the quiet. We took five of the six suites for our son’s wedding weekend. The inn is lovely, with spacious suites, thoughtful decor, and lots of attention to guest comfort. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the shared living area felt cozy and inviting. Breakfast was wonderful too, once on the patio and once indoors. We’ll absolutely be back.

The staff were friendly and attentive, and the rooms were quiet, with a familiar, almost like visiting a relative kind of feel. They provided tons of bath linens. I had plans both days, so I didn’t try breakfast. The location is really handy, just a 2-3 block walk to downtown, the parks, and the harbor walk trail along the river. Plum Island is close too, and Port Vida Mexican cantina is right across Center Street. I’ll return.
