We spent a few days relaxing at Newport Dunes, and it was a great getaway. There are lots of activities for all ages, water sports, and sunshine, and the park staff were friendly and responsive. We recommend the cottages for anyone without a motor home, or who isn't set up for or interested in camping on the sand. My husband and I stayed in a new beach-facing cottage. The big old trees in front were full of different kinds of birds, and we loved sitting on the porch with coffee in the mornings and watching them. From there we could also see the water and the outdoor movie screen. Families with kids were in cottages on both sides, which added to the family feel, and the fire pits nearby were lovely in the evenings. We cooked three nights. The kitchen had enough supplies except for wine glasses, and the appliances were practically new and very clean since the cottage was only a couple of months old. The on-site store had a good range of things, including firewood. We picked up snacks and Tylenol there. We also had a daytime burger at MoeB's, which was great and definitely worth recommending.

The kids could swim, play in the water, or just hang out on the beach, and renting a paddleboard or boat is another fun option. I loved that there were no waves. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and our family vacation was an absolute blast. I'd recommend this place to anyone! Almost forgot, I went for a run around the harbor and loved every second. I'll have to try beating my time next time.

The beach and water activities, plus the restaurant, are what seem to earn this place its good reviews. The grounds, though, are packed with RVs, motorhomes, tents, and cottages like sardines. You share amenities, including the bathroom. Ours was nice but smelled like Marijuana. My awning was barely clear of the neighbor's, and people had to sit and cook in the street because their sites were so cramped. There were no quiet hours in practice, with no security enforcing them at night, and people partied in the streets all night. The hot tub was basically a cold tub, about the same temperature as the pool. At an average of $200 a night, this isn't a peaceful beach camping spot. Motor coach and RV campers looking for quiet should be careful. The Oregon coast is a better option for me, at about $100 on average.

It's location, the inlet, kayaks, and the walking path around the water that make this park worthwhile. There are restaurants, general stores, plenty to see, and enough activities to fill the day across its 400 RV sites. Newport itself is fantastic, with lots to do and see. The laundry room, bathrooms, showers, and amenities outside the RV spots are great. The pluses are strong enough that I'm coming back in less than a month, even though I had serious doubts at first. In December we'll be in a super-premium site, and I'll be coming back. The park itself is no resort, and the regular RV spots are pretty awful: tiny, narrow, short, uneven, and dirt instead of paved. You only get about three feet on either side of the RV. The premium spots are the exception. If you can get past the cramped, unlevel sites, there are good things to enjoy in the park and surrounding area. I recommend Newport or Huntington Beach, though I can't really recommend the RV park, especially if screaming kids bother you. Kids ride in the street, people move picnic tables into the road, and some cabin guests who aren't RVers don't understand campground etiquette. Those are among the issues you'd have to put up with. I gave it four stars because the good parts are substantial, but a few fewer of those and I wouldn't come back.

I had a beautiful wedding with my husband, family, and friends, but Angela did nothing to make the costs clear. She didn't disclose hidden fees, and sold us an inclusive package whose exclusions were buried in contract fine print. They make it sound like a low-cost option, but it isn't.
