The bed sagged so badly in the middle that I kept waking up during the nights. I was surprised by my stay, especially given all the great reviews of the Chart House. The rooms and amenities weren’t as advertised, and the filtered water in the common dining room wasn’t safe to drink: it tasted funny, and there was mildew inside the jug. My room listing said there’d be a Nespresso machine, but there wasn’t one. I thought I could at least get coffee downstairs in the morning, but all I found was a messy nook with a few teas, no kettle at first, and an unplugged old drip coffee maker. There were no grounds, coffee, cream, milk, or anything else. A kettle finally appeared on the second afternoon. The whole setup felt like an afterthought. The inn looks good online, but I never met anyone working there and didn’t feel any hospitality. There are lots of other inns nearby, and I’d suggest staying elsewhere. In response to the owner: restaurant employees shouldn’t be the people told about problems with room management or inn amenities. Those issues could have been prevented and were clearly ignored. The restaurant interactions were oddly aggressive too. The manager bragged about his résumé while we were dining, then talked business and shared vulgar personal opinions with staff in front of diners. I hadn’t included the restaurant in my original review because it’s a separate establishment, but since the owner considers its staff responsible for the inn’s problems, I’d skip both.

The house is cute, and I’m sure one of the rooms with its own bathroom would’ve been nice. But the listing didn’t make it clear that half the rooms share one bathroom. We have medical conditions that mean we need easy bathroom access, and we didn’t know our room had no bathroom. It was also extremely noisy, with other guests audible all night. When we explained that we couldn’t stay in a room without a bathroom, the host wouldn’t make any accommodation, so we had to book another hotel for the weekend.

We stayed for two days in spring 2024 on the way to Boston, and it was such a lovely stop. Our Jane Pickens room had plenty of space and a cute coffee nook. Breakfast was fresh and tasty each morning, and there was a well-mannered puppy to pet. The house is well located, so we could walk around the main areas. We’d stay here again on another Newport trip.

The house is beautifully styled and in a great location, tucked down a side street where it stays really quiet. We hardly knew there were other guests at the inn. Breakfast was delicious every morning, and they did a great job accommodating my gluten-free food restrictions. Loved our stay at Chart House, and I’ll recommend it to friends and stay again.

Nicole was a lovely, responsive host, and the inn felt cozy. We were able to park behind the house, and the parking made itself worthwhile. Being able to explore the area on foot without driving was great. I picked Chart House in randomly for its location and reasonable price, after staying about 15 minutes north of there on our last Newport visit. I hadn’t realized the “Stoneacre Experience” included several businesses, including the excellent Stoneacre Brasserie. I’d recommend it and stay again.
