Cliffside Inn

Katie, the innkeeper and manager, made our visit especially memorable for our party of four. We had a meaningful conversation with her, and her thoughtfulness and care show throughout the property. Ask her about her cats! We stayed in the lovely, comfortable Adele Room and enjoyed the artwork, original details, and the way the historic home has been updated while keeping its character. Cliffside Inn is also beautifully placed for an easy walk to restaurants, the mansions, and Cliff Walk. We’ll reach out to Katie and the team when we’re back in Newport.

The previous owner’s history gave the visit an interesting extra layer. Beatrice’s Room was lovely and carefully put together, with hosts who’d thought through everything from toiletries to a varied, tasty breakfast. Getting in and checking out was easy, even after hours. The inn sits in a beautiful, quiet spot away from the town center, but close to everything. Highly recommended.

The dining room is small, so you share a table with other guests or sit very close to them. That can be pleasant if you’re up for a chat, though not so much if you’re not a morning person. Breakfast had a few choices, and our room was small but comfortable. The converted mansion has a cozy, home-like feel. We stayed a couple of days for our anniversary and really enjoyed it.

The room’s bathroom was nice and had a deep tub, but the bed wasn’t very comfortable and the television seemed tiny for the room. Breakfast, which reviews had called exceptional, struck me as average for a B&B. The service felt unfriendly and off-putting. I arrived 90 minutes before 4 pm to ask about getting in early, but couldn’t, and was encouraged to leave instead of waiting in the empty front room. I felt like a nuisance, despite paying $900 for the night.
