Motel 6 Newport, OR

The price was fairly cheap, though we had to pay tax on top of the room rate. For what we paid, the stay was okay overall. The hotel is right beside the Aquarium, which is a small plus, but getting there meant driving over the bridge, turning around, then crossing back, which was very inconvenient. There was no AC, and it got hot enough that we didn’t need the blankets. The bed was a decent size but uncomfortable. Our basic room was next to the staff cleaning closet, and they were incredibly loud both mornings we were there. That hallway smelled strongly of mildew, and the room had a strange smell of its own. The room came with only tiny bars of soap for washing hands and showering, and no shampoo, so I had to buy some at Walmart. There wasn’t a “Do not Disturb” sign. Staff came in to “tidy up” while we were out for the day. When we returned, leftovers had been left in the mini fridge, and they definitely weren’t ours. Gross. After that, I wasn’t sure about leaving our things in the room.

For three nights at $399 with tax, this was a good deal: we wanted a pet-friendly place in a great Newport location, not the Four Seasons. We checked in on Sunday, August 10, and the process was quick. The suite was genuinely spacious, with a living area separate from the bedroom, plus a mini fridge, microwave, cable TV, gas fireplace, and a jacuzzi apart from the bathroom tub and shower. There was plenty of storage, good water pressure, and lots of hot water. The room and sheets were clean, and housekeeping brought fresh towels and extra pillows when we asked. I’d stay here again when I’m in Newport.

The room was pretty clean, and I’ve stayed in worse places. I was nervous about a Motel 6 because I’d gotten lice at one before. What bothered me here was the open side entrance, which anyone could use, and the big gap around the room door. I left the bathroom door open for a quick bathroom break, and from the toilet you could see straight down the hallway. That made me uncomfortable since I’m always thinking about peeping Toms and weird stuff. This was just my first impression, but I won’t stay here again. :)

We’ve stayed at Motel 6s from Oregon to Florida over our 28 years of marriage and never had a bad experience until this one. We’d booked the 23rd to the 25th for my birthday getaway, but I’d entered the wrong dates. After talking with the reservations person, I had to call the Newport, Oregon location where we were staying. When we arrived late, the receptionist argued with my husband and said I’d never called. I found their number in my call history and gave it to her. She still insisted we hadn’t called, even while agreeing it was their number. After that experience, we’ll never spend another dime at Motel 6.
